We had a good sale day yesterday. It hardly seems like we are making progress because we keep adding items. Saw a neighbor we had not seen in quite awhile...known for his jokes. Had a number of out of State customers.
One more day today and we will close up for the week. We will see what next weekend brings.
I walked through the East Wildflower area after supper...I need to put on my boots and take care of some poison ivy...again. Leaves of three let it be...or let me spray it away:)
That is PI snuggled up to the Gaillardia....PI is an opportunist plant...it will snuggle up to something worthwhile to increase its chances of survival.
We took a short ride and took care of some more Canada Thistle....miserable stuff anyways. There was an area I was hesitant to drive into...but Far Guy managed.
The East Wildflower area is finally getting some Milkweed. Not sure that it will flower this year because it is so dry.
We have been noticing an increase in Monarch Butterflies around the yard.

We woke up to rain, rain, rain. Sometimes we forget what a real rain storm is like. No thunder or lightening but we had 3/4 of an inch in the rain gauge the first hour!

ReplyDeleteArgh! I hate Poison Ivy, I had to be so careful in PA whenever I went into the woods. Fortunately we don't have that much in CO, and because of that I sometimes forget to look for it when I'm out.
ReplyDeleteI remember lots of milkweed growing along the railroad tracks near our house when I was a kid. I have almost never seen it growing around here - and we don’t see the monarchs either. So sad.
ReplyDeleteYoung plants are important even if they don't bloom because the caterpillars need food too :-). I'm seeing more this year. Hopefully everyone is and not just my particular garden.

Glad that your garage sale has had a steady stream of visitors. It’s a great way to declutter and to visit with old and new friends. It must be difficult to only spray the poison ivy and not the wildflowers, or do you just spray both?
ReplyDeleteMy husband puts on thick gloves and just pulls the poison ivy & poison oak. Luckily we don't have much of the nasty stuff. Our one lone milkweed is huge and flowering up a storm. It's in the bed I keep watered so that's probably why. I hope you folks get more rain, Connie, and I'm go glad your sale is going well. Lordy knows that's what we need to do, for sure. ~Andrea xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteThey mowed all of the milkweed down around the Trueblood path... So Sad. I love the smell of the flowers, the bright colors! And All of the insects that love Milkweed. Monachs AND tussock moths, milkweed beetles, and Soldier beetles. Very pretty, colorful, and mostly harmless to others. Cheryl got a bad case of Poison Ivy. I dodged the bullet... this time. Hope I am so lucky for the rest of the Summer. (Cheryl got PI really bad this time.) Poison Ivy must DIE!

ReplyDeleteI just checked our 10 day forecast - no rain in sight, but the temperatures will be pleasant. Perfect summer weather, if it wasn't already so dry.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have Monarchs here but we do have lovely Western Swallowtails. They lilt about on the flowers.
A Canadian blog shared their monarchs and my brother in California shared his monarch. I haven't seen a thing. Our drought could have s slowed them down in our area. I have only small white ones right now. My zinnias should pull them in if they are out there.

ReplyDeleteWe have a ton of poison ivy & oak and who knows what else on our property. Someday the building will be done, and being caretakers of our land will increase. I hope. I didn't know PI was an opportunist, interesting. Your wildflower area sounds beautiful. Glad you had a good sale!
