It is time to reveal the ornament that we woodcarved for 2018. We had no idea what we were going to carve, a fellow carver (Sheila) and her sister came up with an idea and I expanded on it.
The blocks of wood were cut and Far Guy used the wood lathe to round out some of the parts…it saved some hand carving.
Then they were hand carved, top and the bottom part with the face and the scarf. Far Guy drilled a small hole in the top and we attached an eye hook…it gives you something to hold onto and it will hang on my fancy smancy wood carving holder ( A piece of wood with nails that is screwed to the top of a large peanut butter jar. ) I tried to paint ten at a time.
I learned how to paint plaid on the Internet. FYI painting plaids will eventually drive you almost nuts.
Faces and snow and trees
Then I lightly sanded the whole thing…put a dark wash over the whole thing and washed most of it off. Then they dried for a few days…noses came next…they are toothpicks painted orange. The entire ornament was sealed and names were added. Glitter was added to the tops of the trees and satin like embroidery floss attached to the eye hooks.
Chance has two snowmen ornaments this year…his was the first carving I finished before I learned how to paint proper plaids. I made him another.
It was a time consuming project with so many steps to its creation.

ReplyDeleteWhen I do some of my wood...painting I sometimes use that dark wash look too. I also learned how to 'crack' paint rather easily. This year was my first year at using Mod Podge on blocks too...I guess I'll have to show you what I did. Not as beautiful as this though!
I love the ornaments. Congratulations to all the winners.
ReplyDeleteConnie, they are precious! Love them.
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you. I will send you an email.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Congratulations to the winners!
ReplyDeleteI was beyond patient waiting for you to reveal the design. They are so great to see. I really like the plaid. I would have to study plaid to paint it. You have to feel good that all of that is done and the results turned out great for the two of you. You inspire me to start painting again.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to all the winners! And I do love the design. I am amazed at how you keep coming up with all these different designs. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have been waiting and waiting - no clue(s) this year! These are crazy beautiful and so tiny with details! I can't wait to see them in person!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful work!!! Those ornaments are lovely! I don't care that I didn't win - just enjoy seeing them!
ReplyDeleteVery creative!
ReplyDeleteI love that Chance has 2 ornaments because he had 2 people to love him. And 2 families- yours, and the internet family.
I am always impressed with your and Far Guy's amazing skills. Well Done, Connie!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the winners!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! And so many steps! Lots of patience to make all of these--wow!

ReplyDeleteThese are sooo cute! I love the snowman's face peaking out. Congratulations on another year of gorgeous ornaments! And congratulations to all the winners!
ReplyDeleteOh my! So much work! They turned out beautifully. And of course Chance deserves to have his own ornaments. Congratulations to the winner’s. They are going to receive something very precious.
ReplyDeleteBlessings always, Betsy
Very pretty! I like the tribute to Chance.
ReplyDeleteI like the look of these so damn cute, Chance would like his ornament
ReplyDeleteLots of tiny, fiddly work! They turned out really cute and so different from other ornaments you have carved.
ReplyDeleteThis year's ornaments are wonderful ( as usual) but oh, the painstaking painting! How many hours you must have spent.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the winners. These carvings are really neat to have.
ReplyDeleteCute ornaments!! Nice job! I can imagine having a sort of assembly line set up would make things go a bit faster. You painting the plaids made me think of when I painted a Union Jack on a cedar chest lid. I should have googled the instructions because I did it in the wrong order somewhere in the process, and had to do some sanding off ;-) The shape makes me think of a fish bonker, lol, although maybe one for a goldfish, as I can't really tell what size they are. Congrats to the winners!
ReplyDeleteVery, very nice ornies. You two do a great job!
ReplyDeleteAwesome ornaments again this year! You guys do such a wonderful job! Congratulations to all the lucky winners. It was fun trying to win!!! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness, I get one of your little masterpieces?! Thank you! It will be treasured.
ReplyDeleteLove your ornaments, always original. That's a lot of plaid to paint, especially in a small area. I think it's perfect that Chance gets two ornaments. Congratulations to all the winners.
ReplyDeleteThey're beautiful and what a lot of work! Congrats to the winners! Such details and so many steps. I love the invention for hanging them to paint...great idea. Glad Chance will have an ornament on the tree...in fact 2 for this year!
