Train Show

We went to the Train/Toy Show over in Fargo.  We usually go every year.  It was a great day for a drive and when I got nice and cozy warm I had about 20 cat naps several naps along the way. (Far Guy was driving and Chance was back seat driving!)

Step right up or down

If you have ever taken the train you have watched a conductor put one of these down for you to disembark the train.

Toys at the Train and Toy Show

I like to look at all the toys…well except the tractors…and there was lots of those.

The old calendars were impressive.

I had a nice conversation with a young man about 11 years old who just began to collect Lionel Trains…it is his birthday soon and he was hoping to get an engine that gives out smoke…fun to see a new collector…he wanted to know what I had purchased I showed him…people to paint and a Post Office…I was just holding the bag for Far Guy!  (The little boy’s parents informed me that he was indeed getting an engine for his birthday.)

Just for the record I have no idea where Far Guy will find space for the Post Office.

  1. Does Far Guy have a train layout? Why don't you show us sometime?

  2. I know you have shown me Far Guy's train at some point in the past, but then I saw I couldn't search on your blog or I would have gone looking. I remember it was indeed a very crowded train track. :-)

  5. Many of these things I've never seen. They must not have been sold in Canada. I'm familiar with the step. It was hung in the doorway of the entrance to the car.

  7. It is fun to see children getting "hooked" on collecting older toys.

  8. Sounds like a fun day to me. And car rides are such a nice avenue for a nap! (Or three)

  9. Hi! Glad you could have such a wonderful day. My hubby had a train at one time. The kids were younger and I am sure it was not as nice as your husband's. We are going on a little trip tomorrow to see the colors! Nancy

  10. Yep! I have disembarked a train via that little step. My BIL had a train collection and I have to admit it was fun shopping for A Christmas gift or birthday gift for him.

  12. I put my Lionel 027 up for sale on Craigs List and my visiting son from Arizona said no way. It was abeloved family heirloom of his and his older brothers. It came as a shock to me because I don't recall either on of them ever playing with it. Needless to say he inheritied it and took it back to the desert. I hope the grandchildren use it....:)

  14. I love trains too and wish I had room to set one up. My daughter Lynn has rented a shop which really is an old train Caboose in a little antiques village. She is so excited. She has a picture on one of her older posts at www.amothersjournal.com . I had to laugh about your troublemaker tree that won't drop it's leaves. I have one too and it sheds big brown oak leaves until spring.

  16. I bet Far Guy and the young man had equally amounts of great joy to be at the train show. I bet it was a good time by all.

  17. I so remember those step/benches as I took the train to my grandparents that lived in the Moorhead/Fargo area! I would have bought that bench!!! My grandpa also worked for Northern Pacific RR!

  18. My ex-son-in-law had an extensive train set up in the basement of his place. I wonder if he still 'plays' with it after all these years.

  21. Maybe Far Guy could make his train climb up to another level...so he could have another whole area on top of the one he has. Of course, it would have to accommodate that water tower!
