The other day I got a gift from my cousin Leann!
Ten Shiny Brite ornaments all wrapped up in tissue paper nestled in a box!
One of the first things I did was to make a note card that described each ornament so when they make their way to the tree I get them back in the right box. They will be called my Leann ornaments! They are just perfect!
The snowmen and carolers are probably the most rare…and the turquoise color is hard to come by. The design may have been made for only one year possibly two.
I am not sure if there is a list out there of the year certain ornaments were produced.
I should take a photo of every different design I have and in what colors…perhaps that will be a good blog project for December. Heck yes it will keep those December I hate shopping blues away!
I have collected Shiny Brites for about 25 years, last year I counted the ornaments and I had 586… I have purchased a few myself this summer so the number will be well over 600 ornaments this Christmas. I am still “thinking” about what I will do this year…I have that ten foot tall tree…and I bought a new tree in the after Christmas sales…thinking that a seven foot tall tree is tall enough and I would showcase different Shiny Brites every year… oh well I have two more months before I HAVE to decide.
I don't collect Shiny Brites, but I have a small (original) box of them from my mother. I know there is one turquoise ornament in the box. Let me know if this link is helpful with some dating information: http://thecavenderdiary.com/2012/12/13/collecting-shiny-brite-ornaments/
ReplyDeletegoodnightgram, I enjoyed that article very much. It does help somewhat...but no exact dates are given for what they produced and when. There must be some records someplace:)
DeleteOnly two more months?:) Oh they are so pretty my grandmother had those I have no idea where they went. Hers were from Germany. Beautiful. Hug B
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine having 600 of these Shiny Brites. I remember hanging them on the tree many many years ago, but I am sure not even one survived.
ReplyDeleteI'm really taken with the carolers, which I've never seen before. I don't really collect them but I have a few and love them. One year the cat climbed the Christmas tree, it tipped over, and I lost most of my favorites. Of course Chance would never do that!
ReplyDeleteI remember all those so well as my family had a lot of those types of ornaments. Can't believe Christmas is only a couple of months away. You will have to take a picture of your tree when it is decorated. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful gift!
ReplyDeleteI have a few but my favorite thing is Granny's OLD bubble lights.
Oh I do like them. I don't use breakable ornaments on our tree because we've always had cats, some of whom have been known to play with the tree and break the breakable ones.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! 600 ornaments! Wow! With our move, I'm pretty sure I won't be doing ANY decorating!
ReplyDeleteThese take me back to my childhood...
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.

I think a forest of three trees all different sizes will fit the bill in that hallway space. Those are really in good shape.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is quite a collection you have!
ReplyDeleteI love your Shiny Bright collection! I love Christmas ornaments. I would love to have the ones my mom hung on the tree when I was a little girl but they have been long gone. Young people never think about stuff like this until either your parents have passed away or until we get older and more sentimental. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI think with all those ornaments the different set of ornaments every year is a good idea! Or maybe having a tree in every room might help ;=)
ReplyDeletethat is a wonderful gift! They are beautiful and look to be in great condition!
ReplyDeleteYou bring up an interesting point as to whether there were different shiny brights according to the year.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful ornaments - they have found a good homr. Enjoy!
ReplyDelete586! That is a lot of ornaments. Bet it takes a while to put them up.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I'm always on the look out for Shiny Brights for you! Over 600 seems cool, I hope you get to 1, 000!

You have answered the age old question of whether it is possible to have too many Shiny Brites! Obviously, NO! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great and interesting collection. You could Google to see if there are any "collector groups" out there for Shiny Brites. Your Leann ones are so pretty and I do love the turquoise one!
ReplyDeleteShiny Brites are absolutely gorgeous but in all my garage sales and thrift store shopping I have never, to the best of my knowledge, found even one. If I did would I necessarily know it was one? I must go to that site that goodnightgram mentions. Maybe that will be a help.
ReplyDeleteWow! Well over 600? You collect Shiny Brites for your Christmas treeS like I collect ancestors for my family tree ;)
ReplyDeleteYou may have to establish your own Shiny Brite museum and put them all on display...on several trees, of course!
Those are beautiful! What a thoughtful gift.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that shiny Brites were a big deal. I have a bunch from early in our marriage that adorn our tree every year. I just threw away the Shiny Brite boxes last year when I stored all of the ornaments in shiny new plastic ornament boxes,
ReplyDeleteWe never had shiny brites growing up because we had a cat and I never had them on my own after I left home for the same reason, but I do love them. Those new ones with the figures on them are really unique! Okay--I am all set for pictures from now till...well, till you're done. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love hearing about your Shiny Brite collection.
ReplyDeleteGotta love surprises like that!!! I've never seen ones with those decorations on them so super cool!
ReplyDeleteOn our visit to the St. Croix River Valley, we visited a few antique shops. And again I found myself looking at the ornaments, trying to tell the Shiny Brites from the impostors. So pretty.
