Free Concert

We had another date night…two in a row.

Headed to the little town of Menahga where they are holding summertime FREE concerts next to Spirit Lake.  Does Finlanders over dare are gettin' pretty fancy smancy bringin da arts and culture to da nortwoods!!  It was a warm evening but cloudy. There was a good turn out with maybe 200 people there…mostly old farts.

Monroe Crossing is a five piece Blue Grass Band.  I thought their best song was “My Girl” which they introduced as a half Motown and Half Blue Grass so they called it Mograss.

That gal is passing the orange bucket…so that the concerts can continue on next year.   I think that blue tarp was in place just incase it rained.   A lightening bolt hit out on the lake…made everyone sit up and take notice.

We saw a number of people we knew, especially from woodcarving.

I guess I can take or leave Blue Grass music…I like the oldies and that is about it.

The lady in front of us sprayed just about every bug that landed on her with some kind of perfumy insect spray…then she handed the bottle to her husband.   Good thing we were outside.

  1. There are a lot of white heads in that audience. It looks like the weather was fine, though, for the concert. I laughed at your Finlandia language talking, once I figured it out. :-)

  2. Summertime outdoor concerts are the best! I've managed to squeeze in a few this summer, too.

  3. Bluegrass music is one of my favorites. That sounded like such a fun time until you mentioned the lightening bolt. I would probably have knocked some people over getting out of there!

  4. What a beautiful venue. A LONG time ago when I was in high school/college, our hometown had outdoor concerts every Friday night. The people performing were anyone available from the high school band or any adults who could play. It seems we practiced a couple of hours maybe the night before. It was fun and we had a decent group on stage and in the audience. Fun memories.

  11. A beautiful setting for a concert. I've heard Monroe Crossing and enjoyed them, but then I enjoy bluegrass music. It's so peppy.

  13. pretty place for a concert but the bug spray lady would have been very irritating. rarely do we get around a crowd of people!!! one of us would have to kill someone!!! lol
