I didn’t make gift tags out of Christmas Cards this year…however I checked all the addresses on the envelopes and re read the letters and notes. I stapled all the letters together and marked them 2014. The envelopes were shredded and the cards recycled. I was covered in glitter once again…it seems every Christmas Card comes with a fair amount of sparkly glitter.
I still have a little address book. Inside all the moves, deaths and births have been noted along with a few cell phone numbers. Far Guy has all the addresses in his computer but I like my hands on all marked up old address book…I even have one from around 1975 that I am unwilling to part with. Silly maybe…
All of the Christmas Card Photos were marked with the year and shoved in a photo box to be dealt with at some other time…or not. They are a someday project.
All of those photos are a bit of history. Kids growing up… friends and relatives growing older…the proof is in the picture.
The old red enamel spittoon looking popcorn bowl that I have used for cards every year since about 1996 was washed and put away.
I enjoyed my afternoon.
It's like reluctantly closing a good book.

ReplyDeleteI get a few cards with pictures in them that I slip into my memories collection, but since we don't send cards out, we don't get many, either. Glad to hear you're having productive days again. :-)
ReplyDeleteI put the Christmas cards away on Saturday, but I should also have gone through them like you did, rather than waiting to another day. We are getting less cards each year, and that's kind of sad. Too many email cards this year.....just not the same.

ReplyDeleteI really miss getting Christmas cards. It's probably a good idea to hang on to a few old ones because paper Christmas cards will probably be extinct soon. Like the dinosaurs. :-(

ReplyDeleteDon't mention address books or you'llrelly get me going. Our address book is an old small bindre type thing. the pages are full and so little bits of paper have been scotch tpaed in and now papers are just shoved in, in no order. Many addresses should have beendone away with years ago.

ReplyDeleteAddress book? Not silly! I still have--and use--mine from the '70s, too. Even better, I also have my grandmother's address book. She used hers the same way--everything is in there! It's a real treasure to have it.

ReplyDeleteSeveral years ago I borrowed an idea from a friend for putting each year's photo cards on a ring and marking it with the year. Each year you can pull them out and flip through them and compare them with new ones.
ReplyDeleteAnd that reminds me, that is the one job I haven't done yet in putting christmas away - Christmas cards.
I like real paper cards. Can you even save an ecard from one year to the next?
