December 20, 1969: 41 Years Ago

Happy Anniversary to us!  We made it to year 41.  We were young when we got married, I was barely 18, Far Guy was 19.  We were best friends first..seems like that worked for us..either that or we took the love, honor and cherish part seriously.

Our parents set a good example.  This year my parents celebrated 60 years of marriage.  My Mom was almost 21 when she married my Dad who was headed to Korea when he was almost 24.  Far Guys Dad was 25 and his Mom was 24 when they tied the knot back in 1940.  They celebrated 53 years together in 1994 before Far Guys Dad died.

We may go out for supper this evening..it depends how Far Guy feels..he is fighting a terrible cold.  We already decided where we will go..a local Steak House that is open all winter. ( That may sound foreign to you..but many eating establishments are closed here during the winter..they are open for the summer only.)

Last year I wrote that we were going to go someplace. Well as it turns out the farthest we got from home was Grand Rapids, Minnesota or Grand Forks, North Dakota..maybe this year! I told Far Guy this morning that we were turning into our Grandparents, My Maternal Grandparents made it as far as North Dakota a couple of times.

Last year we got a beautiful ornament from Steve and Jo for our Anniversary…
IMG_9248Lovey Dovey White Doves
IMG_9250Sheltering each other with their wings, sitting in a bed of roses. It doesn’t depict that our wings get all ruffled up sometimes or the times when we rest together in the thorns wondering which thorn is going to bite us in the butt next.

Jo marked the ornament for me, it has been placed on the downstairs tree..that is still not completely done…I still have a little time.

More Wedding photos are located here and there is one here too:)

  2. Happy Anniversary! Not sure young or old really maters I think it is a lot of who surrounds the couple. You had good people around you. And tenacity - I'm thinkin' I can see that from here eh? Tenacity to sit hard on those thorns and give it right back at 'em!

  3. Here's sending you both a very happy anniversary wish.

Yep, hubs and I noticed when travelin' up there that not all places stay open during the winters. I don't miss the truckin' company at all.

God bless and have a great celebration!!! :o)

  8. Happy Anniversary!! You were a beautiful bride. Sounds like you both made good choices picking just the right spouse. It is even better when you are friends first.
What a special ornament to hang on the tree each year. It is lovely.
You seem to be making your trips to someplace named Grand something or the other, so maybe this year you can head south instead to Grand Cayman.
    Enjoy your celebration tonight.

  10. I looked at your other pictures. They are all pretty but I really love your veil. Congrats on the longevity of your marriage. I tell people my husband and I have had 34 years of wedded bliss. He says (with a smile), we have had 34 years of wedded-ness!

  13. Happy Anniversary. Isn't it nice to be married so long that you fit together? I am hungry for popcorn tonight and I bet Norm comes in and says "Let's have popcorn for desert!" It works that way with us! How about you? Many, many more years to come!

  14. I have read your blog and enjoy it, I plan to follow more closely,
I read your carving information (carving on Cottonwood bark ) Your cottonwood must be so much better than California CW.
Does yours shed cotton in late spring? Is is horrible to deal with, but one good thing, Do the Leaves seem to twinkle in the wind?
Love your carvings, I can not imagine how you saw a church in that one but you did.
    It was beautiful.
We celebrate 48 years this summer.
God bless you in your frozen state. (minnesota right) That too I can not imagine, Isnt it amazing the diversity in our lives, diversity right here in the same country.
