Yesiree..I am living in a Whitetail Winter Wonderland nightmare. The skies are grey and the *&^% deer are taking over.
Yesterday when we returned home there was a parade of deer in the west driveway. We stopped and watched as one by one they made it across the driveway into the woods..I hope they took their damned deer ticks with them. Number four is hard to see..but take it from me he is there! ** Click to enlarge
How did they know that Chance was in the house while we ran an errand..oh ya..maybe they heard him howling and crying in protest. It was way too cold to take him along..and sometimes he protests all the while we are gone. Yes, we do leave him alone occasionally..he doesn’t like being left behind.
Today more of that beautiful white stuff is falling out of the grey sky:)
I know deer can be a terrible nuisance; however, we never have any around here. My daughter lives in a more rural area and they see all sorts of wildlife. Pretty but potentially hazardous, too.
ReplyDeletePeace,
Muff
It sounds like you guys are going to have a hard winter with all that snow.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least you didn't say, "Bah, humbug!" But you like Christmas as evidenced by your last post. Most people think deer are beautiful - - in pictures because they don't live with them like you all do. The good news about the deer is they are not eating any flowers right now. Regarding the ticks, is there any chemical barrier you could put near the edge of your property? Cook's Pest Control treats the perimeter of our house outside and that eliminated fleas inside (but we still have to treat the cats with Frontline).
ReplyDeleteI wish you cold sell some of your photos. They are beautiful. . . . especially those of Chance. You catch so many expressions and poses that give him great personality without us seeing him in real life.
Not too long ago I spent about $70 for a lovely bark carving of a wizard -- I think yours is amazing. Good for you!! Perhaps you could take it up as a "hobby" and earn a little extra money on the side. Hungry deer in the winter can do some damage (well, in the spring too!) no doubt about it.
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me that I haven't seen our doe with her two fawns in a long time. Maybe they moved up north to your area. :-)
ReplyDeletePa and I went for a ride this am and saw 20...he would like to hunt them, but it's not possible for him anymore...do the ticks hang around even in the cold?
ReplyDeleteI hope they took the ticks with them too! Chance doesn't like those nasty little things :(
ReplyDeleteThankfully ticks aren't a big issue here. The deer are nice to see for us that don't see them toooo often, but since we are getting some deer damage in the new garden that is farther from the house, I'm not too thrilled with them anymore.
ReplyDeleteYou're so lucky having deer in your property... they are delightful (apart from the ticks - but it's too cold now for them anyway).
ReplyDeleteBut if the ticks fell off right now wouldn't they freeze to death? Ever since that fateful day a year an a half ago that Bet scared two deer out of the Market Garden and they went on to the highway to get hit, both by one car, we haven't had deer out in the Market Garden or in the hedgerow strip between it and the highway. Which is good because we have lots of new little trees that deer think are fairly tasty especially when their naked (the trees). But we still have quite a few deer on the backside of the farm. No matter how much trouble they are they are still pretty to watch.
ReplyDeleteWell, we have a zillion of them now too. I do remember when all the city folks "went up North" to deer hunt. Now, many come down here to the corn fed country. Still, the deer muliply, come into my yard, to check out the birdfeeders, and get Baron Baron barking from his kennel in protest at 2 a.m. in the morning. Grrrr.
ReplyDeleteI am not for or against the deer, but in Osceola a man was being helped to load 20 or more bags of deer food onto his truck from Walmart. I can't see southern Iown feeding the deer as they clean up all the corn fields. The one other thing I thought was maybe he had a corn burner to heat his house and it was cheaper to buy it from Walmart. I keep telling you the metro Des Moines has this same problem and there are so many herds throughout, including one that lives next to Interstate 35.
ReplyDeleteWe had a close call with a couple deer on the way home from the Children's Christmas Program last night. In the words of Hubs...too close.
ReplyDeleteSnuggle in and keep warm sweetie!
God bless ya!
And I complain....sigh! We watched a call in RFD TV show and a farmer in your area was talking about his winter wheat....made me think of you.
