Minnesota Snowball

Ha!  The Minnesota Snowball is blooming on a day when it was 98F (36C  eh!) ...it was a tad warm.   I did a few things outside in the morning.  The bulk of the day I spent inside...laundry, cleaning a bathroom, playing 52 pick up and put away....started a new crochet project...and I had a nap.

The Snowball blooms are small this year...probably because it is so dry.

We sat outside in the evening...Far Guy kept me company while I watered the new flowers.

Today we are supposed to have another scorcher.  The house is cool, the Air Conditioner is working just fine.

Snowball report

The Minnesota Snowball has turned white.

The shrub looks pretty good for getting no care what so ever.

I have been busy in the yard and the driveways...it is that time of year to spray the Poison Ivy along the roadsides.  I wait for conditions to be right...not too windy.  I also walked through my baby brothers zipline area.  Lots of kids will be running up that hill later this summer.  It is located in the deep woods on a hillside.

Minnesota Snowball

The snowball bush is putting on blooms.

Soon they will turn white.

I mowed the dandys again, they will pop up again tomorrow.   We are dry, might get rain...and it is turning cooler.  We have had several days with highs around 90 F or 32 C eh! That is too warm for me...even my head sweats.

We worked on carving Christmas Ornaments,  I have not painted one yet but I am reasonably certain all will be okay.  The design will work great.  It is a rare year that we have two designs in mind...but one will be for the next year.

We have not been going to woodcarving with the group for some time,  they have been woodburning and the smoke in the air is not good for Far Guy.

Minnesota Snowball

We sure could have used a snowball or two the last couple of days have been unseasonably warm…82 F or 27 C yesterday and Friday was 86 F or 30 C eh.  We usually don’t hit that warm of temperatures until late June.

The Minnesota Snowball is in full bloom.

MN snowball in bloom

I have been enjoying it all week.

Minnesota Snowball

Viburnum opulus ‘Roseum’ I think is it’s real correct name.

Our Trillium

Far Guy’s Trillium is beginning to fade to pink.

Mowing the lawn is almost a full time job now a days.  I was able to get a few of the glass flowers out yesterday and we purchased plants for our little garden out front and they are now enjoying their first day in the garden and we hope the darn old squirrels leave the plants alone.

Minnesota Snowball

There is a shrub (word used loosely) here in Minnesota that all the natives call a Snowball Bush or a Minnesota Snowball.

Snowball bush

This was a photo back on  May  23 2015.   It was in bud.

This towering shrub began as a little stick back around 2000 or maybe 2001.

Minnesota Snowball Viburnum opulus Roseum

Viburnum opulus ‘Roseum’  or Minnesota Snowball.  A very old plant…the settlers must have carted it to Minnesota.  It is a Zone 3 plant/shrub.  It can withstand Minnesota winters and droughts…which is a good thing as I never water it.

Lots of snowballs

This year was a good year for blooms.  Perhaps it was the dry winter…it figured it better bloom before it croaked.  Photos taken on June 4 2015.

Snowball bush quite tall

As you can see it is quite tall…I will guess it is nine feet tall.  I should trim it back some after it is done blooming.  Sometimes the flowers are used as cut flowers but I will just enjoy them on the tree.

Often times this plant gets all confused with the Hydrangeas like ‘Annabelle’ who blooms in late July or early August here in Minnesota.

So now you have seen a Minnesota Snowball in June.
