For Winter. There is no doubt that Winter will come to Minnesota sooner or later. Yesterday we pre bought all the propane for our furnace and fireplace for the Winter. Check that off our list. The pre buy program works well for us, we know up front what the cost will be for the whole year. We usually order more than we use ( just in case it is extremely cold Winter) so they carry over the credit. Last year it cost $904 to heat our home for the year. We think that is very reasonable. We never have to call for fills either as the gas company monitors the tank. ( I don't have to traipse back there to check the levels and then call them.) We usually keep our thermostat at 74 degrees during the Winter, if we are gone we turn it down to 70. We do not like being cold.
We are both anxious to hear what the Oncologist has to say at the end of the week. We will be happy when the next battle plan is in place. We both want to move along on this fight with Cancer...we want to win the battles and eventually the war! Being patient is hard...and being THE patient is even harder.
Yesterday I was busy all day except for a restful reading, watching TV nap time. Laundry and some cleaning was calling my name. Far Guy did some woodcarving.
Supper was left overs in the fridge!
Minnesota weather: High was 68F or 20C Low was 50F or 10C eh! There were freeze warnings for way Northern Minnesota.
A huge snow drift at my parents home a few years ago. Photos found on my Mom's SD cards.
Here is my Dad walking back from the bird feeders after someone had snow blowed a trail for him.It has been a number of years since we have seen that amount of snow.
Far Side
I just received our paperwork to pre-buy our propane for the season. I need to get that checked off my to-do list too.
ReplyDeleteOn the farm, we usually prebought our propane during the summer months mainly because it was a lot cheaper then.
ReplyDeleteI get the prices for LP. I'm not happy with our company as I wanted to change them last year and informed them of that.
ReplyDeleteI use very little LP each year as we also have the minisplit..and a tiny home. They wanted me to change to a smaller tank so they could make more deliveries and charge me rent for the tank I've had for many years.
I told them to come get their stuff and where to put their rent charge.
Anyway, that was pretty funny. I was trying to use up the gas last winter so I could change companies in the spring and they came out and filled it when it didn't need it.
I'm glad you got all of that done!
Good luck on the appointments!
I pray you have great news this week! Glad to hear it's getting closer to Fall! It's cooler here...80' instead of 90's.
ReplyDeleteThat is a LOT of snow all right.
ReplyDeleteSnow, that four letter word! Here in central NY state, we get lake effect snow from Ontario, and sometimes we get pounded. Last February, we got snow and more snow, and when we seriously thought we had quite enough, we got even more. It's always in the back of my mind how nice it is in summertime to just drive without checking the forecast...no worries of getting an hour away and having to drive home through it. I do not like driving in it, with the slippery roads and awful visibility, driving at night is bad enough these days. But it IS coming, and it's good to be prepared.
ReplyDeleteI will say my prayers for Far Guy. A friend of mine just found out that he isn't in remission any longer....he is cured! Maybe that will be a good sign for your guy! Your heating prices are amazing! Wow! We pay approximately $200 a month - recently our cooling bill was $300 +. But, we will be getting solar installed, so that should take those bills down to almost nothing.
ReplyDeleteIt has definitely felt like fall since Saturday here too. Beautiful days - quite unusual for state fair week. Love the photo of your dad on the snowy path. We haven't seen that kind of snow in several years either.
ReplyDeleteI’ve heated with butane. Your way sounds like a wonderful solution. It cost Larry and I that much to heat this house in 2009. He had insulation and other things. I have a heat pump now. They don’t work up north, but her they’re the most economical way.
ReplyDeleteI’m hoping for FG to get good news about his treatments. It’s his turn!
I set my thermostat on 68. You’d freeze at my house. 🤭 I’ve near saw such a large amount of snow! I’d be tempted to ove.
Glad Far Guy felt well enough to do some carving.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great program. We had propane tanks on the farm - one for the house and one for the dairy barn. This area isn’t getting as much snow as past years either. It’s hard to argue against climate change at this point.
ReplyDeleteI'd say that cost was good...we spent at least that amount on natural gas last winter. The gas company always seems to raise prices in late fall so I wish we could pre-buy too.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping for more good news for Far Guy this week too. Take care.
WOW! That was some snow. When I was a child we could get knee-high snow, but not anymore.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a long time since we've had that much snow. My memory of it is 2010. Huge amount that year. I wish I had known how hard it is to heat a long single story house. I could at least gone into it knowing it can break the bank! Fingers crossed for the appointment results.
ReplyDeleteWe keep our house warm, too. It is our reward for retirement. We gorge on heat. My friends who heat with propane used to be on a program where when the truck went by their road, they would "top off" with any extra propane on the truck. I'm not sure they do that anymore.
ReplyDeleteOk that's weird, you posting about snow and me having a dream in the wee hours today about big snowfalls. Early winter coming?
