Tilly on Main Street

We ran all kind of errands in town...Post Office, recycling etc...then we picked up Tilly and went to lupper.

He has his blinker on here as he was leaving the parking spot.

Not many tourists here yet so we could park in the center of Main Street.  Yes Park Rapids is one of the few towns where you can park in the center of the street or diagonal.  The Main Street is extra wide because when they laid out the town they wanted enough room for horses pulling a sled of lumber to turn around in the street.

A number of buildings on Main Street are empty.  There is no longer a dime store or a fabric/quilting/yarn store.

Gasoline was $4.04 in town. (Tilly uses lots of gas)

Anyways.  Tilly endured a few snowflakes in the air....I think Far Guy was about ready to catch them all. Tilly is home and safely in her garage.  Goodness knows what he would have done if it started to rain!!

Minnesota Weather:  High 42F or 6C  Low was 27F or -3C. Cloudy all day.

  1. I was interested in hearing the history about why Main Street is extra wide. We have had a store in the area which specialized in fabrics, art supplies, etc. close about a year ago..

  2. Love seeing Tilly, I imagine she does get very thirsty while on the road.

  3. How interesting about the street and being able to park in the center.. I don't recall ever seeing this anywhere. I'm guessing that Tilly gets a lot of looks since she is so pretty...She is a beauty...My Sam would love to drive her around and of course, with his arm perched up on the window ...showing her off. Glad you were able to grab lupper and not have to cook.

  4. In the town where I was brought into this world, the entire square is ringed by streets in which one can park in the middle as well as the edges. Like you said, those sorts of places are fairly rare these days. Back when I was in high school, a good share of our population would drive there (30 miles away) to park in those diagonal spots and stand around talking. Back when gas was much cheaper.

  6. Tilly looks so pristine I can understand why Far Guy didn’t want any precipitation! I would be afraid someone would back into her. RHill, TX

  7. I thought Tilly was a she/her. So glad she/he escaped the on slot of moisture from above. Kind of like not wanting your hair to get wet?

  11. Our gas prices went down from 4.99 to 4.85 today so we filled everyone up. Ching Ching. I have never seen parking in the middle of the street. We don't have any streets wide enough to do that. We do have diagonal parking on Main St and so many closed store fronts it is no trouble to find a space.

  12. I had read about the quilt store closing. It was one of my favorite stops when we visit. Park Rapids is our family’s favorite vacation destination.

  13. Interesting that you can park in the middle of the (wide) street.
Gas here was down to $2.11 a litre today.

  14. All of the charming small towns face these same struggles to keep those mom and pop businesses going. I've been in quite a few towns with the wide main streets like that. I'm sure glad Tilly didn't get rained on.
