Cards and stuff

I am working on the Christmas Cards.  I always say I should start earlier.  Perhaps I should not change ideas so many times.  The first design... I was just not feeling it.  So I spent an afternoon watching watercolor videos.

Blank cards ready for the magic.

They are a work in progress and hopefully they will be mailed before Christmas.

My baby brother and me...this photo is from 1954.  My baby brother was born in March of 1954...there is a pillow behind him propping him up.  Looks like I was sharing a doll with him.  I bet I made lots of miles on that tricycle.  Photo was taken in the living room of the farm house where I grew up. Note the Shiny Brite Ornaments, tinsel and garland.

Minnesota weather; Snowy all day.  We are in a Winter Storm warning.  High was 26F or -3C Low was 13F or -11C.  The wind is supposed to come up and blow the white stuff around a bit.

Far Guy and I made supper...scalloped potatoes and Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes. Yummy!

  1. Can you share the recipe for the sloppy joes?

    1. Brown a pound of Hamburger then add a cup of beef broth and about 4 tablespoons A1 Steak sauce simmer to reduce the liquids. Put mixture on top of sliced buns and top with mozzarella cheese, put under oven broiler to melt the cheese. We like Pretzel buns the best but Brioche buns worked well too. I use a gluten free beef broth base to make the beef broth and I served bib lettuce with Jens for Gluten Free.

  3. That supper sounds delicious. I had a trike as a kid and rode it all over the place. I also turned it upside down so it could be something else. It was my horse, it was my motorcycle, it was my way to adventure.
Good luck on the cards. I'm just not feelin' it this year.

  5. Your photo reminded me of my grandfathers home. The tinsel and the shiny ornaments were what made the tree and I loved seeing it each year. I totally know that you will have all of those cards done before Christmas.. I don't know what your theme is for the cards, but I do know it will be perfect..

  9. Your cards are so beautiful every year. I might not get cards out at the rate I'm going. I was also born in March '54, so that photo looks just like ones my parents took. Especially the tree with tinsel dripping from the branches. And the tricycle - I had one too, also with a gazillion miles on it up and down the block.

  11. Both my brother and sister were born in '54--one in January and one in December. We had trees with the tinsel, too. Nice memories. :)

  12. I always liked the tinsel on our tree back then.

  13. I remember Christmas trees like that.
The rain persists here and there is a lot of misery where there is lowland flooding and river bank erosion.

  14. Great old picture. I like the tinsel on the tree but my eyesight isn't good enough to make out the shiny brites. As Linda commented, we're having torrential rain with flood warnings for any low lying areas.

  15. Love that photo because it reminds me of my childhood Christmas! That's why I always put up a tinsel shiny Brite tree!

  16. LD....Every year we would cut a cedar tree out in the timber or along the road. They would have big holes in and my dad always said we can fill it with decorations. It never did look right.
