Friday seems to be the catch all day around here. Everything that has been put off the entire week has been waiting long enough. I go from one thing to another...cleaning bathrooms (what parts I can do) doing laundry, dusting a bit, taking care of mail, taking a project off of my desk...this week it was a couple of old 1980's photos to send to relatives...of course I have to include a note inside a homemade card:) It all takes time.
Appointments are becoming overwhelming so I must print out a calendar for August and September that I can have with me...please do not recommend I keep things on my phone...half the time I have it shut off anyways.
Far Guy and I are making potholders. I have encouraged him to help me especially when he has bouts of high anxiety. Everyone deals with anxiety differently...I clean something or have a nap...the nap usually wins. What do you do when you are anxious or stressed out?
I like this plaid pattern and I think we will make more of them.
I have a calendar with notes on it that hangs on the wall. I write appointments down and do like you do.
ReplyDeleteNow I just put colored dots for Rich on the calendar when he has Home Health coming so he can see it clearly.
When anxious? I get to work on something physical. Anything that can use up my anxious energy. If stuck inside, it is deep cleaning, if I can get out it is weeding, or using the machete to cut down things I don't like.
I'm weird. I have high energy anxiety.
Rich naps.
Both work for us.
I love this pattern you are making too. Well, if I am anxious, I like to go for a long walk, do outside work (weather permitting), and like you clean house, or even exercise. Praying is always a first, but the physical movements of anything help a lot. Sometimes, it's just sitting and reading a book in peace and quiet too. Calling and talking to someone helps joy flow too.
ReplyDeleteI go for a walk, usually.
ReplyDeleteWhen I am feeling very anxious I work on my blog about books that don’t really exist. You might be surprised how many books (or films or TV shows) feature a writer who has written a book that doesn’t exist in real life. Or just a fictional book on a shelf. Yes, I know it sounds nerdy, but I have been interested in these fictional books since I was a child. Writing about these books concentrates my mind and stops me feeling anxious.
ReplyDeleteCleaning might be more useful but the fictional books really help.
Pretty potholders! Staying busy seems to be my solution to stress or anxiety. I'm not a worrier but I do feel overwhelmed at times with all that I can't keep up with anymore. I don't have many appointments but I do have a list to keep track of all my meds! LOL! Also, a good book or t.v. program helps to take your mind away from problems. Remember the old "Calgon take me away" commercials?
ReplyDeleteDuring times of anxiety, I work outside and if I can’t do that, I clean inside! I like the potholders. RHill, TX
ReplyDeleteI eat
ReplyDeleteThe plaid pattern is very nice!
ReplyDeleteI tend to wring my hands when I'm anxious. When that happens, I usually do something with my hands, crochet, knit, or doom scroll on my phone. The latter is not the best option because I tend to find more things to be anxious about. Physical activity is better.
Thank you for the Book idea. I've place it in my wish list on Amazon. Like you I don't use my phone accept as a phone! :)
ReplyDeleteI do like that pattern a lot. We did those also when we were younger. I am glad you have cotton loops rather than the synthetic. I believe you mentioned that in a recent blog.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry I have missed commenting. We had some busier than usual days and then I caught a virus in my throat-ears-sinuses for a few days - - but I am back to my normal old age self. Like you, I prefer a paper calendar, too. I have one on the wall and one in my purse.
You have both been in my prayers for your recovery. It's wonderful you are able to do more things. You had mentioned having pain still a while back. Is it subsiding any - - or at least more tolerable?
When I get stressed and need to relax, my go-to is jigsaw puzzles on the iPad. I don't care about doing one with pieces on a table but have enjoyed them digitally - - never thought I would. I use the apps called Just Jigsaws and the other is Jigsawscapes. The first one you have to pay occasionally if you want more. The second has too many ads but I don't want to give them money. They have different in puzzle shapes. I used to try and challenge myself with more pieces but if I don't like a picture, I decrease the number - - because it is supposed to be for fun and not work.
I usually keep things on my phone, but ended up printing June and July calendars to hang on fridge where I could write all the ball games, soccer matches, and swim meets. When overwhelmed or anxious I often take a book and find a quiet place to read. Or I go downstairs and sew.
ReplyDeleteI ALWAYS keep stuff on a piece of paper - the other option is the computer and that isn't dependable. A piece of paper doesn't need electricity and won't just shut down.
ReplyDeleteMark has high anxiety and sleeping is one of his coping methods. So is physical work.
ReplyDeleteMy phone is never on. I use a wall calendar as well as a purse calendar. Ok...I'll admit it, there's also a weekly to do list on my dresser. But hey...I haven't missed an appointment yet
ReplyDeleteOh, I remember all those potholders I made in younger days. Glad you have found something to calm the spirit. I put on an an audiobook (nothing that takes “thinking”) that helps take away the chatter in my mind and do endless puzzles with many pieces on my tablet. We all must find a way.
ReplyDeleteI crochet or walk to help me with stress. FG can’t be outside so I think your pot holder making is a good activity for him.
ReplyDeleteSounds like my Fridays. Catch up day for sure. This is great that FG is helping with the potholders. Let me see...when I have anxiety, I usually go outside and walk. Or...get in the pool and float. I certainly know what you mean about having to write down the appointments. I bought me a small book calendar that fits in my purse...I have everything written down..Hopefully I can keep up with everything.
ReplyDeleteWe use our iPhone calendars and share them. Many times they create problems. On one of my recent trips to CA I ended up at the airport 3 hours early. (Due to the phone putting in the time as EST and not PST) Many times we lose things. A paper calendar is so much more reliable! Hmmm, besides eating, what do I do when stressed??? I find that I feel better if I tackle something and accomplish a task.
ReplyDeleteI love the potholders! Now I want to make potholders! I always loved weaving them and when I was young and spent time with my Aunt Berlie, she would give me bags of "loopers" she called them. She worked in a hosiery mill that made socks and back then everything was made of wonderful cotton. When I am anxious or nervous I EAT! Makes me so mad. I mill around in the kitchen and eat! How do you always manage to write such a good post? Every day! :) Love, Henny
ReplyDeleteThat plaid pattern is fabulous!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am a paper person. I know, I know. But I am a paper person.
MY organization goes from one thing to another with out finishing anything.
ReplyDeleteI am a worrier, but maybe not a person with high anxiety. I always used to go for walks when stressed. That's hard now. I like to go into the garden and take photos and then post on my blog.
ReplyDeleteWe keep everything on our iPhone calendars, but the real command center is the weekly planning calendar I have sitting sitting on the end of my kitchen counter. Everything must be written there.
Making the potholders looks like a calming thing to do.
ReplyDeleteI used to get lost in a book since I was a kid. Now that my eyes are a bit wonky for reading I get lost in a good movie or a series to escape and lower my blood pressure--lol!
I am definitely an analog girl, too! I absolutely prefer pen and paper. :)
I love ❤️ the plaid pattern.
ReplyDeleteKeeping track really can be tough.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the potholders are fun and distracting.
ReplyDeleteI like my garden when I'm stressed. The sun and fresh air really help. Plus even if I'm just doing something small, if feels like I'm accomplishing something.
ReplyDeleteEat ...watch movies...repeat! Such bad habits.
