Crochet Progress

I am still working on the Nordic Mosaic Crochet.  One more design is complete.

Part six the Nordic Trees are completed and work has begun on part seven called Nordic Baubles.

The pattern has nine parts. It is slow going.

This week is appointment week, we have appointments everyday but Friday.  We had to pick the coldest week out of the winter to go out everyday.

The last day of January is upon us and we are gaining a bit of sunlight everyday.

Quiet cold day

It was a quiet cold day.  We did not get above zero all day.

Not much was accomplished.  I worked on the Grands photos albums.  2011 is complete and I began pulling photos from 2012.  It is a good winter time project.  I crocheted for awhile and watched some old reruns of Project Runway.   Sadie had a calm day also...too cold to do much outside.

Puzzle Help

We finished the 2,000 piece puzzle.  I doubt that we will work one that large again as it takes up the whole table.

Sadie helped.

She thinks she should be innocent until proven guilty.  She had great fun tearing up a beverage box!

Can you pick out the piece Sadie helped with?

Jen was very frustrated with the puzzle...and says we should burn it.  It was an adventure.  I discovered that Sadie can grab pieces just like that and chew the picture part off the front of a piece before giving it up.  One piece completely disappeared...that may have happened the day Sadie upended a puzzle tray onto the floor...who really knows for sure.

Cold

It is turning colder. Not unusual for this time of year...just a fact of life here in Minnesota.

This looks like a quilt that would be nice to snuggle into.

Far Guy has three medical appointments today...normal stuff for him.  Scans and six minute walks and a Dr visit.  His weekly infusion went well yesterday...the nurses are getting better and faster and that cuts into my Hobby Lobby time...but I did get all the groceries!

Before and After

Here is a photo of the old front seat.

They were very worn under several seat covers.

Andy, Far Guy and I went over and picked up the recovered seats.

They were able to save the cream colored vinyl, the gold trim and most of the rose goldie beige vinyl. The new panels are a close match they are on the far left and far right...and of course the new fabric that is on the seat that is the original fabric design from 1959.

Far Guy is very pleased.  He was happy with the work they did.

Before the weather turns really cold

We got a few things done before the extreme cold hits...on Friday...we won't get above zero for many days.  Winter in Minnesota....and the wind will blow.   We filled the car with gas and got some groceries.  I will shop one more time on Thursday.  Making a list and checking it  twice...we will go out for medical appointments and that is about it.

Quilts from a quilt show many years ago in 2011.

On the road again

I left on Sunday the roads and weather were good.  My Mom had a Doctors appointment to re assess the blood clot in her leg on Monday.  It seems stable for now and the Doctor reminded her to keep taking her medications.  We made a trip by the fabric store and the grocery store.

Mom is depressed, I told her when she misses Dad then she should sew!  She is scheduled for a Mohs surgery on Wednesday and my baby brother and his bride will get her to that appointment.  She is not looking forward to that procedure. ( Skin cancer removal from her nose)

Monday on my way back it rained just like summertime and the temperatures dropped and it was very icy...those icy patches continued through most of my return trip.  Got back to Andy and Jens safe and sound.  I am tired and will have a low key day today.

Design Choices

Andy helped Far Guy bring the Desoto car seats into a place that does auto upholstery.  They cannot match the vinyl exactly but it comes real close.   Fabric was ordered last Fall...it is the original 1959 design...at $167.00 a yard.  The seats are both fabric and vinyl with a gold rolled trim.

There were two perhaps three seat covers over the original seats.

We will have to wait and see if the door panels match the seat covers close enough or next winter the door panels will have to be redone.

Photo of the door panels.  The seat is off to the right.

Far Guy would like to keep the car as original as possible.

Quiet but busy weekend

We had a quiet weekend, Jen and Andy are in Ohio for the weekend, they entrusted us with Sadie and Little Elvis.  Sadie has been a bit down and looks out the window...I finally told her not today maybe tomorrow and she seemed to understand.  Far Guy plays fetch and tug and I put her on the treadmill daily, I did some "leash work" with her...she needs to learn to walk nicely on a leash.  Sadie is a work in progress.

Far Guy has been watching hockey, I did some laundry, changed the sheets, cleaned out some of the drawers in the kitchen, worked on the puzzle and put photos in the photo albums for the Grands...  I am in 2010...so I am making progress.

Little Miss

I got to spend a bit of time with Cee Cee last week.  She was at the hockey game watching her brother and then in the vehicle last Monday when Day Care was closed.   She can sing most of the ABC's and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star...she is not yet totally potty trained....although I heard that she uses the potty at daycare...go figure.  She is 34 months old.

She is a challenge for her Mother.  Kinda stubborn.  She loves her Auntie Jen and Unka Andy....and is starting to call me Great Grandma.

How many pieces?

So many pieces.  So many that it would not fit on the puzzle board.  It is a very large puzzle.

It had to be moved to the table....and it used up all the sorting trays.

It will be a work in progress for a number of days.

Far Guys infusion went well, afterwards we went to Hobby Lobby.  We had supper at a Mexican place after we picked Sadie up from Doggie Daycare...she loves going to daycare and napped in the car while we went in to eat.

I can work on the 2,000 piece puzzle and pet Sadie at the same time...multitasking:)

Card Club

In the Winter I go to Card Club with Jen.  I know several of the gals that attend.

We made some real pretty cards.

The designs are bit different from what I usually do...change is good.  I am discovering that different is not all bad.   Discover was my one word intention for this year.

A Sewing Day

Jen and I joined a few of my cousins, my sister,  my sisters in law and my Mom for a day of sewing at my baby brothers lake place. The food was fantastic...soups and fruit and many desserts....gluten free and otherwise.  There were four Gluten Free people there...Jen, my cousin Geraldine, my sister and my other baby brother.

Nearly everyone there was a quilter.  Cousins Geraldine and Wilma helped my Mom get ready to sew a couple of quilts.   I crocheted on a couple of projects...my sister and I helped Mom catch up on writing thank you cards.

Mom is grieving and has lost her interest in sewing, we were hoping that the sewing days would help her through the process a bit.

Cousin Geraldine

There were many sewing tables and machines set up in the porch.

 Jen sewing.

I ironed some pieces for my Mom and for Jen...that is as close as I want to get to quilting!

Meeting Lola

I met Lola over the weekend and got to hold her a good long time.

I finished her blanket in record time.

She has her eyes kind of open.

Holding her Mama's hand.

Jen Quilts

I  do not sew, I do not quilt.  I have a 1975 Kenmore sewing machine that may have seen 20 hours of sewing over the past 48 years.

Youngest daughter Jen is taking quilting classes.  She got a new sewing machine for Christmas a Juki.  Adam moved out to his own apartment and his room was converted into a sewing room within a few hours.  I stay out of there.

She made this quilt that hangs in the craft room.

Nicely done for her first try!

Hey Mikey the Hockey Player

Hey Mikey plays ice hockey.  They have games on Saturday mornings and I managed to get to a game yesterday with my camera.

Hey Mikey in green.

Listening to the coach...I admire these guys...it must be like herding cats.

There was some falling down and getting right back up.

They rotate through being the Goalie...hard to see the puck coming when you are messing with the net!

He is learning.  This is his second season playing ice hockey.   The games are 45 minutes which is 15 minutes too long...the kids get cold feet and hands and lose any concentration that they may have had.

A Sadie Puzzle

We ordered a puzzle board, it arrived damaged...but we are using it anyway until Amazon gets it figured out.

The puzzle board is nice because we can move it off the table to play cards or work on other projects....and it has drawers.

Sadie has the same eyes as the Golden Retriever in the truck next to the large Golden.

Next up is a shell puzzle.

Little Shavers in 2010

I ran across this photo in my archives.  Four of my other baby brothers grands that will graduate from high school this year.

The three boys and then the little girl in the blue that is facing the other direction.   I was sitting across from the little shavers.

I always wonder what little kids will be when they grow up.  So far there is an undecided, an electrician, a forester and a diesel mechanic.  Three will head off to school next Fall...the twins in the orange shirts to a school closer to their Grandparents than their parents so we might get to see them more often!

Pictured are Nordic Snowflakes, Wintergreen Trees and Nordic Star.  I have a start on the Nordic Trees in the upper part of the photo.  I am on part 6 of 9.

Photo Project

I am working on the photo album project for our Grands.  Some of the photos make me smile.

February 27,  2010  Adam holding Little Elvis.

Miss Miney, Little Elvis and Chance.  Noah is in the background.   Feb 16, 2010

Little Elvis must have turned 13 now as they have had him 13 years.

Here is a photo I took just the other day...his eyes are getting cloudy and his hearing is not great, he sleeps in our room most nights.  He has a fluffy dog bed.  He has a touchy tummy so the only treats allowed are rice cakes...and he likes them.

Lola

My niece Stacey was expecting a baby with a due date of January 13.  She had no idea if it was a boy or a girl.  ( They did not want to know) Lola was born just before midnight five days early...she is perfect!  She weighed 8 pounds and 10 ounces.

I had been looking at pink yarn and blue yarn...I almost bought the blue yarn because I thought for sure she was having a baby boy.  So I went and bought the pink yarn yesterday after my other baby brother called with the news of Lola's safe arrival.  Lola is Grand # 15 for him.

Welcome to the family Lola!

Horizon Blue Shawl

I finally finished a shawl.  I have had it in the works for a long time...it is brainless crochet and I can do it while watching TV there is not much to count in the pattern.  Caron Make A Point Crochet Shawl

It is Caron Latte Cakes in the colorway Horizon Blue which is machine washable and dryable so it makes a great donation shawl....or one to gift.   The pattern calls for a fringe but I am not doing that fussy work.

Last week I brought more of the same kind of yarn so as soon as I was finished I enlisted my chief yarn winder. The color is Red Macaron.  I will begin another in the same pattern.

I would call it peach something instead of red something.  I like my yarn in balls...and my chief yarn winder likes projects....he was taking a break from his wood carving.

Andy Cooks and Bakes

Son In Law Andy made Wild Rice Soup to be served in bread bowls.

I asked for my bread on the side.

It was really good soup...and the bread was excellent!  The soup had chicken, chicken broth, wild rice, potatoes, carrots, bacon and cheese.

Far Guy's bread bowl filled with soup.

Andy cooks and bakes. These are buns...delicious.

Book Club January

We had book club on Thursday afternoon.  We read The Measure by Nikki Erlick.   I thought it would be a much better book that it was, I give it a five out of ten stars.  It was a struggle for me to finish it...but I finally just sat down and read until I finished it.  I just hate books that are hard to get through.  I would not recommend the book to anyone.  I passed it along to  Jen as it is a pick for her book club later this winter.   I can hardly wait to hear what they say about it.

Friday I caught up with laundry and cleaned our bathroom.  I have several projects I am working on...crochet projects ...I think I have four projects going at one time...

It was frosty again.

Frosty

We had a frosty morning yesterday and it was foggy...and then we had sunshine.

The tree out in the front yard had some sparkles in it...I tried my best to capture what I saw.

Far Guy had a good infusion...just one stick...but the IV Pump malfunctioned a few times.  I walked up and down the aisles at Wally World and a number of things hopped into my cart.   After I picked Far Guy up we went to lupper ( lunch/supper)  at Paradiso a Mexican restaurant...we had shredded beef enchiladas and they were excellent.

The daytime temperatures have been above zero...practically balmy for this time of year!   Our high yesterday  was 10 F or -12 C eh.  The side roads are still compacted with snow and slippery and some intersections have very tall piles of snow.  Parking lots are compacted snow and/or very icy.  Think walk like a penguin.

Phoebe moves

Youngest Grandson Adam moved into his own apartment and one evening after work he came and got Phoebe and moved all her stuff too...I imagine she was quite vocal all night.

Adam rescued her from the Humane Society a few years ago.

She is a nice kitty...a talker...she let us know when something wasn't quite right and was a good mouser.  Sometimes she brought her catch into the house...dead...sometimes quite alive.  I bet she will miss the doggie door into the garage.

Sadie Runs

Sadie runs on the treadmill.  I have had her on it a couple of times...she does great especially if she gets a treat now and then.  She goes to Doggie Day Care one day a week and she goes on the treadmill there.

Sadie has energy!  Both Andy and Jen take her for walks on the nearby trails....sometimes it is too cold to go outside and sometimes Sadie just needs to burn off some excess energy.

Not a great photo but you get an idea!

Here she is looking sweet...and tired from an outing with Andy who is her "person."

She is well loved.
