Christmas Eve

A Christmas tree from a long time ago...sometime in the early 1950's.

I found this photo when I was going through old photos. Look at all the Christmas cards hung above the tree!

Happy Christmas Eve!

  1. I like the thought of hanging all the Christmas cards from a string overhead. We have a wreath display for them but sometimes it gets toppled over from time to time due to people bumping into it and it getting top heavy with cards. I guess that is a good problem to have. Hope you have a Merry Christmas!

  3. Love this! It takes many of us back to those days emotionally when looking at this.

  4. I love the old Christmas tree...ours was silver, growing up, with big colored bulbs. My girls like the clear lights more, and have our tree decorated nicely, but I sort of get nostalgic, and like a more old fashioned tree...Merry Christmas!

  5. We used to hang tinsel on our trees in the 50's and 60's too. Not any more!
I still have my Christmas cards hung on a string, but in a window.
Sending wishes for a blessed Christmas to you and your extended family.

  7. I love the tradition of Christmas cards, giving and receiving. I wish it wasn’t dying out! That truly looks like a Christmas scene from my childhood memories.

  8. Me too! It's the tinsel that brings back old memories of Christmas in the past. Merry Christmas, dear friend!

  9. I love the old trees and the old ways. My Grandma Powell did the same with her Christmas cards.

  10. Happy Christmas Eve!

I recall the line with the Christmas cards in our living room too. The tinsel brings back lots of memories too.

  11. Hanging the tinsel one strand at a time. Tossing it on not allowed! Yes, we remember.
    Merry Christmas!

  13. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Nice picture. It seems few people hang tinsel on their trees any more.

  15. I love the photo of the old style trees...I loved tinsel and I would press each strip of it between my fingers before placing it on the tree....I think t hat's fairly anal.

  16. I remember that tinsel! We always had it on our tree growing up and my mom insisted that it be put on one strand at a time. We put tinsel on our first tree and then never again. Neither my husband or I had the patience to put it on so that it looked nice! Merry Christmas!

  18. Christ is the reason for the season and I wish you both a good family Christmas time at the North Pole. My brother-in-law has now been put into a nursing home after losing his wife. He doesn't know much but he does know he has a sister Della. It is a tough Christmas for you all but I wish everyone the best that you can be.

  19. I recall having a place to put the cards and loving the long letters we got in each card that were hand written.
    That is a wonderful photo!

  22. What a great picture. What about the missing tinsel on the bottom left? Was that found later coughed up by a pet? Love all the Christmas cards.

  23. I had forgotten that we taped our cards all in a row on the wall up high. Your old photo is so memory filled of my own Christmas. Shiny, silver trees covered up our brown cedar tree.
