I hardly ever visit the first block; it has a candy shop, a theater, a real estate office, a nail place, a hair salon and a what not shop.
Typical Tourist Town. This is across the street.
Another candy shop, a couple of clothing shops, The Royal (used to be a movie theater ) now a bar and grill and a deli on the corner. Yes there is diagonal parking and center parking on Main Street.
This is a deli now. It used to be a German Restaurant and we went there: Far Guy for noodles and schnitzel and me for sauerkraut and a pork chop. We have not been there since it became a deli.
There are 4 blocks of Main Street maybe some time I will photograph the other blocks.
Traffic has slowed down...the remaining tourists are older couples without kids and people who enjoy fall fishing.
School starts in Minnesota the day after Labor Day.

Thanks for the pictures of your town. Reminds me of ours. More and more "boutique" shops catering to shoppers year round are the main attraction. We have a historic district for history lovers.

DeleteVery cute. We switched to diagonal parking a few years ago. Most people are still confused with it, backing out in oncoming traffic. Now we are supposed to get a traffic circle, which used to be pretty rare in Ohio. That should be interesting.

ReplyDeleteThe town I grew up in had diagonal parking but no center parking, the street wasn't wide enough. When I took my licence I had to learn to parallel park and thought that was dumb. Glad I learned though as it is absolutely necessary here in the city.

ReplyDeleteYour response to the question of population in your neat little town prompted me to look up the population of mine. Apparently it is between 140,000 and 150,000. So much has changed since we moved here a lifetime ago. I wish we'd have stayed smaller.

Oh what cute pictures of town. How far do you live from that town Connie? It looks like a town that I would like to visit! I love small towns. We have always lived in them...even though my hubby grew up in Minneapolis, he quickly adapted to my love for small town living. Now he dislikes driving into big cities as much as I do....but sometimes it's necessary. Hope you're having a good weekend. We have company coming soon. Take care you two!

ReplyDeleteThe small town I grew up in in Iowa is still the same 2000 people but the shops have changed. Now they have casinos instead! Not a good change in my opinion.

You have a lovely town! It reminds me of some I lived in growing up. When I was a child school didn't start until the day after Labor Day and I think that is the way it should be. Now where we live school starts the middle of August. This year it was August 12th and I think they are moving it up a bit each year. I wonder if they are not going to almost year round school.

ReplyDeleteI don’t think there are many towns left like yours with parking in the middle. It looks like the stores are all in use, too, none empty like so many towns that size. There is so much turnover in our little town. Must be really hard to make a go when you depend on tourists for much of your business.
