I prefer this old phone. Telemarketers don't know this number...but they sure know the eye phone number.
I asked Jen to pick me out a phone after Far Guy was in the hospital the last time. I was travelling back and forth and he had his phone with him at the hospital.
I don't know what the fancy smancy thing will do...but it will call a few people....and I can always count on the unknown number to call me between 9 and 10 AM.

Maybe you will come to like your new phone. It can be useful for even more than calls. Or not.

ReplyDeleteI don't have a smart phone just a plain old cell phone. I really don't like it. Too hard to use so I just keep it around for emergencies (like when I am out walking) and for long distance calls. e had cancelled long distance service on our land-line. Hoping you get used to it as I've seen how handy they can be.
ReplyDeleteI like my phone a lot, but until I discovered I could block any noise coming from it for a specified period of time, it would always wake me up in the middle of the night with a spam call. No more. And I never answer a call from a number I don't recognize. Good luck with this new phone! :-)
ReplyDeleteNever had a fancy phone until my father became sick. I was 2 hours away in Cleveland at the VA hospital, a one hour appointment would turn into a 2 day hospital stay. A blood transfusion glitch resulted in our leaving Cleveland at 2 a.m. instead of 5 p.m. (thank you attendants who walk you to your car). Between his appointments and illness, my work schedule (sorry, I won't be in today. I am stuck in Cleveland for an unknown period without clean underwear) and just piece of mind on winter road trips alone in the middle of the night, I had to pull the trigger.
ReplyDeleteGive it a chance. There is a lot of good stuff about having a smart phone. Learn to use the silence and blocking features and you'll be happier. You might look into Instagram. It's fun and good photo editing to play with.

ReplyDeleteI sure enjoy my smart phone...I get so many unwanted calls. I always have a special wish for those making spam calls. I never answer an unknown number.
ReplyDeleteI don't answer calls unless I recognize the number, and if the caller doesn't leave a message, I block the number. I use the phone as a camera, an appointment tracker and the keeper of all the rewards cards from various stores.
ReplyDeleteWe have the old phone like this that was in the farm house my husband grew up in. His mother gave it to him because he is in the telecommunications business. I need to find a better place to display it in his office.
ReplyDeleteIt took me quite a while to get accustomed to my smart phone...I really didn't like the fact it was likely smarter than me. At first it was merely a phone to make/receive calls and the occasional text. Then I learned how to take photos, handy when I don't have my DSLR with me. I'm not a big app user but there are some that are useful, like weather and news.
ReplyDeleteAnd as others have said, no need to answer the unknown numbers. Unless, you have a large whistle nearby that you can blast when they answer. :)
I love my iPhone! I like your old phone too though.

ReplyDeleteYour old phone is beautiful but I do LOVE my iPhone. I block calls from spammers, take photos everywhere I go, FaceTime with my kids all over the world for FREE and do a multitude of other things. My friend who is 74 said she would never, ever get one and then last year asked me to go with her to get a new phone. She bought an iPhone and is never without it. She uses it more than I do mine! GIve your's a chance. I think you'll be glad you did.

Never had an iphone, but do have a smarty-pants phone. I know it could do many more things but I'm glad I figured out how to take pictures and videos with help from Leah. Mainly use it just for that and calls & texts. I'm sure Jen can help you out if you have questions. You'll probably end up loving it. :)
ReplyDeleteWith time you'll come to love it and for safety it is well worth having it. Just take one step at a time in learning it starting with how to make and receive calls. The last phone I got I was so excited about it that I forgot to learn how to make calls on it - a real duh! moment! Your kids and grandkids can always help you with it. I still ask my kids how to do certain things with my phone and I've had a smartphone for years. Before you know it you'll be taking pictures, videos and playing games!

ReplyDeleteI still don't have one but one of these days I should. I used to have Onstar as that is the only reason I's need one is in case of an emergency in the car but then they changed Onstar and it doesn't work unless I take it and have it upgraded for about $300 which I didn't. I paid for it once and a subscription each month. I didn't see why I should have to pay for it again. Right now the girls meds and mine are taking all the extra cash...and this past winter's heating bill! LOL! Glad you have one though!
