The lilacs are in full bloom.
It has been cool and most days rainy. Not much rain in the rain guage, mostly just enough to make you wet and shivery cold.
Yesterday was party cloudy and we saw the sunshine for the first time in a week. I took the opportunity to get out my sprayer and kill some Poison Ivy. Yes…death to the ivy, it is small and an easy target.
One rainy day I painted a bunch of bark houses that I had carved over the winter.
The one out front is one of my favorites.
Fun little carvings!
We are working on the design for this years Christmas Ornament…it is still in R and D.
Sadly one of our woodcarving friends died last week. Norm was 88 years old, he was a good carver and a kind gentleman. Three days after he died his wife of 65 years died also. What a blow to their children.
Far Guy and I are the youngsters of the carving group…most are in their 70’s and 80’s…so I suppose we will lose many more woodcarving friends. The group is always telling funny stories and laughing…and that is a good way to remember your friends.
So sorry for the loss of your friend. It's funny how you hear about couples dying right after they just lost their spouse. A blow to the family for sure but a blessing for the couple. My dad lasted a year after my mom passed; they had know each other since kindergarten and my dad was absolutely miserable when my mom died. When you have been together that long it's best to go together.
ReplyDeleteOur lilacs have come and gone, so it's lovely to know yours are in full bloom. Living to 88 is a good long life, and I sure don't want to stick around for long once my life partner is gone, so I can understand the close passage of the couple.
ReplyDeleteAs I not doubt have said before I love lilacs but they just won't bloom here, grow yes, but not bloom.
ReplyDeleteI love your lilacs. I haven't had lilacs for several years here now...the freeze always gets them.
ReplyDeleteAs for your lovely friends...that was actually nice for the couple...the other one not left to linger in sadness!
I love lilacs! Their purple hue is pretty and they smell so nice!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear you lost one of the carver friends. Seems it too often happens that the spouse dies shortly after.
ReplyDeleteI love that house! Red cute wonky door. Red roof with big cool tiles. What's not to love!
Could almost smell the lilacs. For all the dark days you'd think we would have gotten more rain. Oh well. Have a great weekend. :)
The carving group sounds like a very supportive group to belong to.
ReplyDeleteThe Lilacs are beautiful! I need to try growing one here. Sorry to hear you lost a friend from the carving group.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear of the passing of your carving friend and his wife too! Yes, certainly a blow for the children.
ReplyDeleteYour lilacs are lovely. The season always seems to be too short then they're gone ( like mine are by now).
A blow for the children, but not surprising that a wife of 65 years would want to follow her husband.
ReplyDeleteYour little carving are great. Do you let the bark tell you what to carve?
Oh yes the bark speaks to me :)
DeleteBeautiful lilacs. They look better than ours this years. The colors are so great. Our hospital visits we make are because we are the only survivors of that family. Husband lives but is feeble and frail. The kids do exist but live on the west coast. My wife's cousin has been in ICU for 9 days now. I saw something similar where the husband died 10 before the wife.
ReplyDeleteThe houses are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI really miss the lilacs! Yours are beautiful and I bet they smell lovely! I love my little house that you made and look at that....a whole village! They are so precious and you do such great work!
