We had company, Alaska Guy was here for a visit and spent an evening with us. Always good to see him and hear his stories. He was telling us about scattering ashes out of an airplane and how they improvised a water jug and a tube to disperse it out of the airplane. He said that many people up in Alaska are choosing cremation. He and his sister have a plot near ours over at the cemetery. He and Far Guy compared notes on their hips and other ailments. We also talked about area history…he remembers a man with a popcorn trailer being right across the road from the store in Ponsford. His parents would never let him get any popcorn because the guy lived in that trailer! I don’t recall it at all…but he is a year older than I am.
I finished the Audio Book A Man Called Ove. I got out the afghan I am working on and crocheted while listening. I give the book at least 5 out of 5 stars. We both enjoyed it. We don’t usually listen to Audio Books…maybe we should listen to a few more. Whoever read this one did an excellent job.
Greenery for sale in town
Maybe I should try listening to an audio book. So far I only read real books and books from the Kindle which I won in a library raffle.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a nice visit with Alaska Guy. Always fun to have a good story teller to reminisce with. Does he drive all that way or fly?
ReplyDeleteI've been listening to a lot of audiobooks lately while sewing and/or knitting.
ReplyDeleteI used to listen to audio books but these days I read them on my Kindle or hold a real book in my hands. Maybe one of these days I'll start again, but I sure don't want to end up being one of those people with earbuds on all the time. :-)
ReplyDeleteI just bought a memorial stone for my brother who actually has ashes in Murray and in Mesa, Arizona. His son that died at the age of two is buried in the south and we thought it best to do both areas. The family plot of my parents only has ashes except for a child they lost in 1951. It is quite a change in the times.
ReplyDeleteI started out not liking the Ove book, thought it was just another cranky old man story, but I ended up loving it.
ReplyDeleteHe has two other books that are good...one about a Grandfather (will bring tears) and one about a Grandmother. All are excellent.
ReplyDeleteLinda
I just listened to two audio books this month. First time since I used to listen to books on cassettes in the car driving from Mpls to Fargo when my son was in college up here in the late 90s. Will definitely do some more of that because I can do crafts or art while I listen. Nice! :)
ReplyDeleteAlways interesting to have visitors stay for a while and talk about your experiences. I do this with my brothers.
ReplyDeleteI loved A Man Called Ove! I read it! Sounds like you had a good visit with a great visitor!
ReplyDeleteNice shot! Did you enjoy A man called Ove. Apparently, the film is funny too.

ReplyDeleteNice to see old friends and talk over memories. Will you let us see the afghan?
ReplyDeleteThe part of the book that spoke to me was:
ReplyDelete“Death is a strange thing. People live their whole lives as if it does not exist, and yet it's often one of the great motivations for the living. Some of us, in time, become so conscious of it that we live harder, more obstinately, with more fury. Some need its constant presence to even be aware of its antithesis. Others become so preoccupied with it that they go into the waiting room long before it has announced its arrival. We fear it, yet most of us fear more than anything that it may take someone other than ourselves. For the greatest fear of death is always that it will pass us by. And leave us there alone.”
I'm glad you liked it.
I must get that book and read it because so many have recommended it highly!
ReplyDeleteMy book club suggested 'A Man Called Ove' last winter. We all enjoyed it, especially the quiet humor.
ReplyDeleteI have a "A Man Called Ove" in my list but I haven't gotten to ordering it yet. Everyone who has read it recommends it.
ReplyDeleteI love audio books, especially this time of year when I'm driving to waterholes. I download them from the library and am always looking for a good one...not all of them are.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Ove! And yes, the reader was perfect! Now get My Grandmother Says She's Sorry and Sends Her Regards (something like that depending on which translation). Another big winner and another great reader!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you read it! I just knew you would like it. Who/what do you use for your audio books?
ReplyDeleteI just finished A Man Called Ove. I had it on my library waiting list for a long time. Got it and read it very fast so the next person could read it sooner. Really a good book. Now I'm waiting for another of his books. I had already read the one called My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry. I'm on the waiting list for Britt-Marie Was Here.
