Far Guy and I used to play Scrabble a few nights a week before computers. It was one of our go to games…complete with the Scrabble Dictionary tucked into the game box for a challenge.
Far Guy and I carved on the Christmas Ornaments most of the afternoon. It was reasonably nice outside 76 F or 24 C eh with a breeze. None of the ornaments are completed yet, they have multiple parts. Adam joined us for a while…I told him he needed the fresh air and Vitamin D.
Adam chose the place for supper last night. He wanted to go to Rocky’s Pizza because they have really cool stuff to look at upstairs and because he likes pepperoni pizza.
I am thinking that we should have had a couple of boys ourselves…they are much less dramatic than girls and quieter too.
The Echinacea ‘purpurea’ is blooming…better known as a Purple Coneflower.
Scrabble is such a fun game. Makes you think, which I need to do more of. Love the picture of the Coneflower.
ReplyDeleteI used to play scrabble all the time and love it. Some people play it on line these days, but I've always been afraid to get started with something like that. I get addicted to those games. Pretty flower! :-)
ReplyDeleteI cannot seem to get cone flowers to grow in my gardens and I so love the colors. Your picture is perfect. Ahhh the days of board games - kind of miss that!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can get your grandson to continue to play Scrabble with you on line. It takes little time and it's fun and easy. I still play with a few of my ex students and it's a nice way to stay connected.
ReplyDeleteI used to play Scrabble with my late husband and we spent many a hour with that when he was in a nursing home for about 3 years. In that situation it was also a good way to check his mental status. He was right "with it" till the end and it was good to know that.

I can only imagine how much less drama I would have had in my life if Angel or GN had been boys. And GN has been much louder and way more dramatic than her mom was. Way to go on the Scrabble, Adam! I'm getting Gn out for some Vitamin D today too - before I get the Christmas in July turkey in the oven.
ReplyDeleteAmen to the comment about boys vs. girls. I raised two sons. Now I am raising a grandson and a granddaughter. Oh the drama of that girls and all her girlfriends!

Yup that's what we did before computers and all the TV series and Netflix was play board and card games . I get my Vitamin D from the sun as well and yes we have two boys and one girl thankfully our daughter is a tom boy lol ! Yup the weather is humid and steamy here still . ReplyDeleteI think it all depends on the boy, or girl! I was never big on board games, but like the occasional game of Scrabble. Sounds like a nice time with your grandson! I will be waiting a long time for that....but hopefully one day;-)
ReplyDeleteI play Scrabble every time I visit my niece, but I frequently play Words with Friends (Scrabble with a different name) with my sister and a knitting buddy on my phone and/or iPad.

ReplyDeleteGuys do like to just hang out and mellow out. They don't always need to feed off of the energy of others. Having said that I have Sunday school class the can just be crazy. Single topping pizza has never been my thing. I bet you can taste the sauce and cheese better that way.
ReplyDeleteWe were Scrabble players at our house as well. I never did well. I knew that the way to win was with the placement of the tiles, but I always went for the difficulty of the words instead. So everyone else made smaller words placed more strategically on better spots and got more points.
ReplyDeleteBoys are quieter? I'm not too sure about that. I guess it depends on the kind of boys you have.
ReplyDeleteDH and I play Scrabble in the winter. Recently I taught my grandson to play Chinese Checkers. It's a fun game that doesn't take too,long ( 7 year olds don't like long drawn out games much).
Some of the good games like scrabble have been abandoned for as you say the computer.

I can assure you that there can be plenty of drama raising boys. I have one of those sons. He is 41 and there is still drama.
