It was a warm day yesterday, the humidity hung in the air all day long. Sometimes the humidity was so heavy it misted and droplets formed on the windshield.
Far Guy had a Doctor’s appointment. He will be a candidate for a lung transplant if he gets worse before he is 70 years old. Under new Federal guidelines that is the cut off age. If you are over seventy you will just die. You may die anyway as transplanted patients live only an average of five years after the transplant.
So far the Lung Function tests are still holding steady. The port problem will be addressed in the next week or so. The infusions he receives once a week are helping to hold his lung function steady at 21% of normal. He has to see another specialist to find out exactly how much damage has been done to his liver…you see Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency not only affects your lungs but your liver also. IF he was a drinker…more than one drink a week he would be in real trouble…luckily he drinks alchol rarely.
The appointment was early in the morning we came home and had a nap.
Along the way home we saw this:
Lance Gloor received ten years in prison for drug trafficing through a medical marijuana dispensary in Washington State. This is part of a movement to bring this Federal Law Suit to light…the State of Washington dropped all charges but the Feds picked it up. Apparently this “trailer” is being pulled by two individuals on their dream walk.
I wonder what is inside? Samples?
My doctor appointment today seems minor.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope Far Guy will never need a lung transplant and that his liver is okay. Hopefully they can get his port problem solved also. He is one lucky man to have you there and taking such good care of him.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Linda: he's sure lucky to have a partner like you, Connie. I'm hoping that they will be able to patch him up with that port problem. And I sure hope his liver is okay.
ReplyDeleteIt must be awful to not be able to get a full breath...something most of us take for granted. I hope everything gets resolved with the port issues and that Far Guy gets no worse and improves. Everything goes through our liver but the good thing is it can regenerate itself as long as not too much damage is done. Of course, at our age regeneration is very slow. It takes me weeks to heal from a scratch or a bruise and the scratches I got from Miss Peeps when she was a kitten are now scars....if I was a child they would be completely gone. Too many original parts! I pray for you both.
ReplyDeleteMy problems are not like Far Guys and I pray he has no liver problems and can improve without transplant. I want to share this. It is just something I am going to do and you might like to give it a thought. I just ordered a Vita Mix expensive but I believe will help me. On You Tube Mrs. Phyllis Stokes has shared so many things about her life to help others. She uses the Vita Mix to improve their health and I want to see how I do with it. It is just a possibility. I don't sell them. Just think they make sense.
ReplyDeleteMy coworker (who also reads your blog) and I were just commenting on how incredibly crazy Far Guy's disease is and how we never would know anything about it if not for your blog - so thank you for sharing that very personal side of it.
ReplyDeleteI hope your hubby can be treated successfully for his disease. That trailer is something else....you should've stopped and asked for samples! :) They recently legalized pot here in Oregon and it's crazy the number of marijuana stores that have popped up. Totally not my thing...

ReplyDeleteIt must be difficult to enjoy the thIngs one wants to do with only 21% of the lungs working. My heart goes out to you both with such worries and decisions in the future. I hope the latest reports are good.

ReplyDeleteThe air has been so thick you could cut it with a knife. Supposed to be 90s still till Saturday. Draining. This has to be the pits for poor FarGuy to breathe in this weather! Stay cool!!!
I think about you and Far Guy often. Tom goes to Pulmonary Rehab twice a week, an exercise program that helps him cope with COPD. He has never smoked but has it nevertheless. Lots of the other clients have worse problems with lungs than he does. I'm glad to hear that Far Guy's lungs are holding steady. He is lucky he has you.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you! I know how hard it is to have a husband with health problems. It just flat wears you down. Stay positive. Hope they get the port going again soon. I just can't make up my mind about legalizing marijuana. Good vs bad? Just can't decide.
ReplyDeleteI can still remember my mom gasping for breath at night with severe asthma in the days before anything was available to give relief. Then off to the hospital for the oxygen tent. Hoping the best for Far Guy....

ReplyDeleteI hope this all works out. It makes sense to have one good lung. I have a younger friend that has had only one lung 25 years now.

It's very hard to live in high humidity. I have a digital humidity sensor, which is a nice gadget to measure it.
