Eighteen

Maddie was eighteen years old yesterday.

It seems like only yesterday that she was born.  She once said she was switched at birth.  I told her “I was there when you took your first breath, I cut the cord and I left Intensive Care with you and your nurse when your Mom had to stay behind.  I didn’t leave your side until you were given back to your Mom.” Switched was not a possibility.

She is still trying to find out what color hair she should have, yesterday it was black.  She is planning a trip to Wyoming to check out a school there.  She thinks she wants to be a Vet Tech now, a few weeks ago she thought about being a Nurse, I am not certain she knows exactly what she wants to do…but she will figure it out.  She says now that she is an adult she can get a tattoo or piercing without parental permission and she can get into the casino.

We went out for Sunday dinner to celebrate the birthdays.  Maddie was eighteen yesterday and today her Mother is …well older than she was yesterday.
Happy Birthday Trica and Maddie!

  4. Happy birthday to them both. She's got her whole life in front of her to figure out what she wants to do. When I was her age, I was considering becoming a nun, if you can believe it. :-)

  5. Drat!!! Gambling too? I hope GN doesn't know about that. She got right to work on the tattoos and piercings, though. Happy birthday to Maddie and Tricia. April is a grand month for birthdays. You're. good gram to have kept watch over Maddie after her birth.

  8. Happy birthday to Maddie. Kids at that age have a big decision but shouldn't feel pressured to decide right away.

  11. Boy! They just missed having the same birthday!
I love the sticking up hair!! She is so pretty. And you were right there when she was born! I'm sure she'll figure out what she wants to do. Some of us take longer than others. And how many people do you know who switched in middle age! More important who she is than what she does. :):)

  17. They grow up too fast. Kids and grand kids are all growing up to fast. I think growing up would be a nice change from growing old.
