Wistful Wednesday : Homecoming

Homecoming was a big deal back when I was in high school, we had contests, we decorated main street store windows, and designed and built floats out of hay wagons. The night before homecoming we had a huge bonfire. The day of homecoming was the coronation of the homecoming queen. After the coronation was the parade, then the homecoming football game and finally the dance.
Far Guy was in the Ushers Club, and it so happened that he escorted the gal that became the homecoming queen in 1967. She was and still is beautiful inside and out. She was a perfect Homecoming Queen. Far Guy insists that this is the year that he was Homecoming King..after all he escorted the Queen. Who am I to argue with royalty:)

  5. Ya, our home coming event really outclass what they are able to have now. Of course, it was a lot of work getting all that stuff for the bon fire. I remember we worked a couple of weeks on that. Old boats, whatever we could burn. People were glad to get rid of stuff!!!

  7. Actually, I think that makes you the King's Consort. And that is so much more fun than being the Queen. Homecoming was pretty cool in high school, it's true. I just wish I had not just moved from my fourth to my fifth high school (Daddy was in the Air Force). I didn't know anybody, and you know how deadly that can be if you're a senior.

  8. Your memories sound very familiar to mine. It sure was a great time of life back then. And now you are married to royalty. Very impressive.

  9. Homecoming was so much fun. Today's child just doesn't have the motivation to do any of it. Our school creates hay racks with students standing on them, not much decoration.
After being in college for four years and started teaching for four years in southern Iowa, then returned to central Iowa, and they were electing Kings also. It seemed so different but it works well. So if they had started electing kings for homecoming, that year, Far Guy could of been the one.

  10. That is definitely one American tradition that I wish we Canadians had adopted. But we don't do anything fun like that.

    He looked so handsome.

  11. They are right when they say a photo can say a thousand words. Or do they! Homecoming defiantly isn't done like it used to be and it is different in all parts of the country!

  13. Ooops my bad, Ushers Club?! (I guess escort club does sound odd doesn't it) Wouldn't it be nice if the world knew of such things these days?!

  14. We just had our Homecoming and one of my friend's beautiful daughters (inside and out type) was Queen. The King also was a great choice -- my hubby's new boss's son. I love that you said she is still beautiful inside and out. Only another beautiful soul would notice. :)
