Up North Continued

We are back at home safely from our up north babysitting adventure. They have a teenage gal in charge of them for the rest of the week. She will probably be more interesting and entertaining than ageing grandparents. She probably won't make them make their beds and straighten up their rooms, she probably won't make them read out loud or brush the cat and the dog. The first thing that Noah said this morning after " Good morning Grandma" ..was "I slept on top of my covers last night so I don't have to make my bed today." He is really a very helpful child.

His brother tried to pull a fast one today..he didn't want to read. He thought a refusal would get him back to the TV in short order.. not so.. Grandma said " We can just sit here all day long without the TV on, that would be just fine with me." I picked the books today..ones that were a little harder. The problem words today were scissors and probably. Moustache would have been a problem word too..but his Grandpa was sitting across the table pointing wildly at his upper lip.. some days my daughter must feel so outnumbered in the company of so many men all the time.

Here are a few photos from Up North!

Noah rollerblading.

Jen rollerblading, and when I told her to do something fancy on her skates..she did.

Adam, the soon to be eight year old..our baby is going to be eight..I wonder if he will always be the baby even when he is taller than me. He was born on Labor Day eight years ago, I was there when he was born..so little and so perfect. I was fortunate enough to be there to hear his first cries..those are wonderful sounds to a Grandma. He was born just eight days before 9/11 back in a time when America seemed so secure and safe. He was so tiny then..easily held and cuddled close ..he is growing up..this baby who will be eight who I have to grab to hug and kiss:)

  1. Welcome back from the farther north than you already live. It sounds like you did a good job of sitting on those kids. Grand kids think the grandparents should be push overs and not parents. My own baby kid just got married at 30 and kids just grow up too fast. Being born near nine-eleven is nothing like being born near world war two but it is one that really does significantly identify his time of birth. It is a nice story. Take care.

  2. Your grands are wonderful blessings for sure! I think that is so cute about sleeping on top of the covers. Mama used to say my older brother would try to take a bath without getting wet!!! The skating brings back good memories - I must have skated a million miles on the sidewalk in front of our home!

  3. Beautful grandkids and what a nice thing that you got to go visit with them and be a grandma they will never forget. I can't wait to have grandkids! Sorry I have not been around...I am STILL under construction!!

  4. I'm with Adam. I admit to sleeping in my school clothes to save time in the morning at least once.

  5. Hi Far Side! Grandkids are just the best thing! I'm so glad you got to spend some time with yours. Sometimes it's really nice to have them to yourself and not have to share them with their parents for a little while. Quality time.

Kisses for Chance! (did he go with you?)

  9. I love you as a grandparent! I feel the same way when I get to be the Aunt. You just know those kids will rise to the challenge when they are actually challenged, and it really makes a difference when you TRULY CARE about them. Good for you!!! And, those boys are adorable.

  10. how nice of you to fill in on short notice! i agree: canned spinach is foul. i love cream of potato soup but i've never tried canned. my mother used to make it from scratch. it's mostly butter and milk (and potatoes) so what's not to like...
