A winner or not

I do like a Tootsie Pop!  Grape or cherry...orange in a pinch.  Far Guy likes the brown ones.  At home I have a jar full of them and our Grands knew they would get one for their trip home after a visit.

I got the fellow in a headdress shooting a star!!!  In the olden days I would have saved the wrapper and turned it in at the local grocery store to get a free Tootsie Pop.  You know back then they were sold individually and usually displayed in a box on a rack in the candy area.  They used to say it was good luck to get the fellow shooting a star...it happened about once in every 4 to 6 pops.  Not every store followed the unwritten rule about the free one!

Springing ahead. I am not a fan...I will be discombobulated for at least a week.

Minnesota weather: High 43F or 6C  Low was 33F or 1C eh.  Mostly cloudy and we might get some rain.

Cards and other stuff

I have a container that I had been putting parts of homemade cards in all Summer/Fall.  Some were photos I have taken, some were stamped watercolor images.   There was a bunch of them...I did not count.  One day I coordinated colored paper to frame the images.  The past few days I have assembled them and emptied the box!  Yeah me!  My desk and the dining room table have been a creative mess!

Saturday was a busy day, I had an early morning appointment at the Dentist for yet another new crown. After that we went by Burger King for a biscuit with egg, bacon and cheese.  Then home to do odds and ends all day long...and a nap:)

I worked outside for awhile putting away chairs, rakes etc...bringing the snow shovel to the front door.  Almost all done with that in preparation for Winter.   It will snow sooner or later!

My other baby brother and she who sees robins first stopped by to visit and they brought us some canned venison.  So that was supper along with toast and peaches.  Next week Deer Hunting begins in Minnesota and they are hopeful to get a couple of deer!

Minnesota weather:  High of 40F or 4C Low was 34F or 1C eh!

Oh by the way I am Falling Back...I hate the time change.

the same

Far Guy is about the same, not much better if at all and not worse.  The not worse part I am thankful for.

I ran some errands in the morning...gas, car wash, groceries and Jen and I both had rewards to spend at Michaels.  It was a quiet afternoon...we watched Number 24 on Netflix...it was an interesting movie.

I have a head cold...and I hope to kick that to the curb soon.  We had chicken alfredo, raspberries and strawberries for supper last night.

Time that we Spring forward...gosh I hate the time change it takes me about two weeks to get straightened around...I wonder how long it will take Sadie as her tummy is on a time clock also:)

Changes

Changing the time is always hard on me, I get a headache, body aches and I want to nap non stop.  How can one lousy hour make so much of a mess in my body.

Everyone is home from Spring Break and Sadie was happy to see her people.  Her tail was wagging nonstop.  She has been on walks everyday and went for a car ride!  Sadie likes this change! So much more exciting than the old foggies.

Far Guy and I did a bit of shopping...purchased bath towels and rugs for the bathroom at home and a new shower head.  We are having some plumbing work done after we get home...a new hot water heater and new high rise toilets will be installed.

Gas is $3.89 a gallon here.  I use coupons from the grocery store and save 12 cents a gallon.  We don't use very much gas being in town for the winter.

I have noticed that some grocery prices are going up...milk, bread, butter, apples and meat for example.

Yesterday Andy bought a pie to celebrate pi day, if we are too far away to celebrate St Urho's Day this week we might as well celebrate with a pie for a change.

A Nap

We will need a nap today.  We won’t know when to eat or sleep with the time change.

Afternoon nap DL Ant Number1273

I will skip the hair net today.  This is an old photo from my vast collection of Forgotten Old Photos…an unknown couple taking an afternoon nap on what we used to call an Indian Blanket. ( A colorful blanket with designs on it.)  Not sure what other people would call it.

Today Far Guy will change all the batteries in the smoke alarms.  He stocked up on batteries last week…because he knows me well.  I insist that the batteries be changed with the time change spring and fall.  What if they don’t beep when the battery is low…what if we are gone when it beeps…that would be a false sense of security.  So he changes them so I don’t have to worry.  Like he says he can use the batteries elsewhere where it is not as important as saving our lives.

Far Guy is still struggling… now with a cough AND a sore throat to accompany his shortness of breath…he is on a different antibiotic after a trip to Urgent Care.

I made soup…homemade vegetable beef…with beef of course …rutabega, cabbage, carrots and potatoes….and fresh flat bread…boy was that yummy.

I dislike the time change…it makes me crankier than normal….I hate that it gets dark before supper.

Change

I hate the time change.  I am a tad more cranky than normal…not sure why, we are on no schedule other than Chance wanting someone to be up and preparing supper and his dish of food at 5:30 to be consumed at 6PM.  He is kind of bossy that way, he now thinks it’s great that we are on the ball and eating supper early!! Soon enough his tummy will be on the new schedule.

I am trying some new recipes this week.  Three of them…a BBQ chicken recipe, cause I was hungry for BBQ.  A root vegetable latke recipe that I will prepare with a couple of pork chops and then a cheesy sausage frittata with red peppers ( cause green ones give me indigestion).

I subscribe to many “foodie” type magazines and rarely find a main dish recipe that we may like… either they take too many ingredients some of which we have never heard of or it has some ingredient we don’t like…like ricotta cheese. Some recipes have to be adapted a bit.

It is cold here and damp, we still have snow on the ground…it was about 15 F or –5C eh here yesterday morning.  That little nip in the air produced a grocery list as long as my arm.   The roads are icy…especially here in the woods (It rained and then snowed and then rained and then snowed.)  Far Guy is back to walking round and round in the house. We are hoping for a thaw…or for weather at least above freezing to wash the windows one last time.

Smoke Detectors

Fall back time sucks.  I hate that it is dark at 5PM headed for 4PM.  It makes me cranky crankier.  I like the sunlight, I need sunlight to be half way normal.

All the clocks are not changed yet, in the car I just pressed buttons until the hour changed, I got some weird beeps and Far Guy got all excited.  The clock on the garage cannot be changed with out a stepladder.

We heard on the news that smoke detectors/carbon monoxide detectors should be replaced every ten years.  We had one that was put in place in 2000…so it needed to go. Two new detectors were put up. We added another carbon monoxide detector since we have an LP Furnace and Fireplace. We now have three detectors downstairs and two upstairs. The batteries were changed in the ones not replaced.  I also marked the new ones with the month and date they were put in service…used a black sharpie too!  Some people say they don’t change their batteries til it beeps…Far Guy changes ours every time change…cause it makes me feel better.  He doesn’t need me whining about those batteries.

Remember to vote!  What ever the outcome some people will be happy and some will be sad. At least  all the mudslinging and hoopla will be over.

Crash!

Crash! Bang..my computer could not handle daylight saving time.. it might be a goner. It will be going in for repair tomorrow..yes I found some back woods guy to fix it. We hope the hard drive is not totally fried.

Luckily I backed up most of my photos..not those I took in February..or March.. but the backwoods guy says he may be able to retrieve those. I took some great photos yesterday too.. oh well.

Far Guy is letting me use his computer..everything is strange..he uses Fire Fox, I use Explorer. His chair leans to one side because he likes to lean back in his chair and put his feet up. If I did that I would end up in a heap on the floor, either that or have to holler every time I needed help straightening up. His keyboard is strange too, it is much better than mine..his monitor is smaller... he also has a messy area and does not use a mouse pad.. my area three feet away is much neater..and forlorn looking..with a black monitor and a mouse that does not glow red..sad.. very, very sad.

Now the adventure starts.. lets see what photos Far Guy has!

A crooked, scanned in photo....taken in February 1987, back when Far Guy managed the Hockey Arena. That would be him driving the Zamboni! Back then, what hair he had was really silvery grey! This could be fun..well maybe not..but it is nice of him to share his computer with me:)
