FLY IN

My sister, Julie hosted a Fly In at her airport.  It was scheduled by her husband well before he died.  My sister did not feel right about cancelling it. The FLY IN must go on!

It was a beautiful day for flying.

About thirty planes landed to enjoy a picnic of burgers, brats, beans, coleslaw, chips and desserts

Planes landed and took off all evening.
You may notice a horse..Julie has a horse and he is not bothered by planes landing and taking off.

Here he is waiting to cross the runway to get to some good grazing.  I wonder what he is saying...hurry up most likely.

Little kids were playing games.

and smiling
We could have taken this one home with us...she is so darn cute...but alas her Mom our niece Rachael loves her very much.

  2. My dad had a couple of planes as I remember going to fly ins during the summer. I remember pancakes and being bored as my dad was always talking to other pilots while I sat around.

  3. Looks like a fun event! Our tiny local airport hosts fly-ins too. I'm glad your sister went ahead with the event. I am sure it was a nice rememberance of your brother in-law. I remember what a kind man he was.

  4. Such fun for the families. My brother has a small plane and once when I was out visiting he took my sister and me to a fly-in breakfast. It was at a residential air strip where folks had hangars next to their homes, and most of them commuted daily to work. Your blondie is darling, I can see why you were enamored!

  5. It seems fly ins are getting more popular. They are like us going on a trail ride & having a picnic.

  6. I was taken by the photo with the amphibious aircraft. Almost 50 years ago, I started work for an air charter service in Northern Saskatchewan, and the company flew float planes in the summer months and traded the floats to skis for the winter. There one or two wheeled planes too. What a fun day!
The wee blond girl is a charmer for sure.

  9. Great turn-out. Looks like perfect weather for a Fly In. No doubt your brother-in-law was there in spirit. Takes a lot of inner strength to carry on without your person.

Beautiful horse. Good thing it is acclimated to plane activity!

  12. Isn't it amazing we can fly? For most of human history that would have been unthinkable. I wonder what else we can do.

  13. Dennis, Brad, Mandy and Piper just went to a fly in last Saturday. Brad and Piper go to lots of them all over the midwest. A great way to get to know other pilots and look at planes! I'm impressed that your sister went ahead with the event. It had to be a bit hard for her, but a great way to honor his memory. Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy
