This month we read a novel by Mary Lawson called Crow Lake.
It takes place in the 1950's in Northern Ontario Canada. It was a good book, I give it an 8 out of 10.The author was born and raised in the farming community in Ontario. All the gals enjoyed the book.
Onto the next book! I have 63 books waiting in the wings to be read...I stack them in the TV cabinet and shut the doors. I really should have less than 50 to be read...I need to work on that and should not be allowed to buy more books unless it is a reading emergency.
Jen listens to books as she works on craft projects and even as she cleans house. The ear thingys hurt my delicate ears...so I would much rather curl up and read a real book.
Far Side
yes i like the tactile experience with books and newspapers...
ReplyDeleteThanks for book recommendation. I have so many books to read it's not funny. I finished another one over the weekend, and started a new one, but the garden calls if my ears feel better. I too prefer a hand held book vs an audio book.
ReplyDeleteI'm only reading two at a time! My day time and my night time books!
ReplyDeleteLaura listens while she walks 5 miles each day. Going to the beach we listened to books. I liked it but wouldn’t do it alone I don’t think. My daughter Erin’s drives for interviews in her work. She evals poor people applying for assistance. Between visits she listens to books. Erin is an RN like your Jen. I noticed we have lots of things in common in our lives.
ReplyDeleteIf my library has that book I’ll try it.
I laid out a 3 book series to start reading about mountain wives Appalachian Mountain romance series. I've not read in a while.
ReplyDeleteI do not like earbuds either - - however my grandson was here wearing a headband with speakers in it and it has Bluetooth reception. You don't even need your phone in the same room or whatever device may have an audio book downloaded. This headband is not even tight - - - - as in constricting. Go to Amazon and look for Lc-dolida. It's great! I never thought I would be such a proponent of audio books. I still read visually from paper, too, but like Jen, I listen while doing things around the house - - especially cleaning because it seems less tedious and mundane. Jen can tell you the places for downloads. I get many from Libby through the public library but also have a subscription to Spotify for music and books. My husband does Kindle through Amazon. The person reading the book makes all the difference and there are good ones out there. I have even enjoyed some history books because of the reader. That's huge for me.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with listening to books now is that when I fall asleep the book keeps on going and then I don't know where I stopped hearing it. :-)
ReplyDeleteI read all books on Kindle now because I need larger text and have trouble holding a heavy book.
I like my Kindle and my paper books. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a REAL book fan. As I am "training my eyes" the pile just keeps stacking.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of reading. I find that as age, I read much less.
ReplyDeleteI will occasionally listen to an audio book, but only if I'm on my own and don't need the ear buds. Like you, I prefer to hold and read a real book. I do have a Kobo (similar to a Kindle) but only use it when I'm travelling.
ReplyDeleteLike Jen, I do better listening to books. I try to listen to a couple of chapters of a book at night when I go to bed. I don't know if it's ADD or ADHD, but it's so hard for me to concentrate when I read.
ReplyDeleteMandy always has one book in process regular reading and one audio book. I don't know how she keeps things straight. Dennis listens to audio and reads books but usually only has one at a time. Well, except for the Bible. He's on his 5th read through for this year already. Me? I usually read unless I'm on a plane and using my earbuds while knitting.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and hugs,
Betsy
I prefer a real book that I can hold in my hands. Too bad i'm such a slow reader now.
ReplyDeleteLD...I like boods that tell history of an older time of my life. My first book as a kid was about older times of the finding of Pompeii. I was in third grade and my friends thought I was strange for ordering it from the book club.
ReplyDeleteI am also a book listener - finding I have more times when I can listen than when I can read. Although I am very visual, so reading is actually more enjoyable and memorable. I looked up Crow Lake. I used to go to a camp in northern Ontario, so I wondered if I would enjoy it. The synopsis told me the book is a "bildungsroman" - I thought it was some sort of typo. I've never heard of that before! It basically means a coming-of-age story. Well, I've been introduced to something new - thank you!
