On Saturday we visited the cemeteries where our parents are buried.
Flags lined the road to the cemetery where my parents are buried.
Sunday I mowed our lawn at least part of it for the first time this year.
We went out for lunch at our usual Sunday Summer Patio place and late in the afternoon we had a good visit with cousins Leann, Jim, Clark and Mary Jo.
Sunday weather; High 80F or 27C Low was 53F or 12C. The high fluffy Summer clouds are back.
Far Side
I remember as a kid, how important memorial day was at the cemeteries. Clean up days, lunch on the ground and just gathering with family and friends. Thankfully, we have a beautiful cemetery here in our small town..this is where both our families are buried.
ReplyDeleteHow nice that you could visit both cemeteries. Looks nice and green there. Usually I go back to where we used to live for the Memorial Day program. Then I can buzz out to the cemetery where my in-laws are buried. Where we will be buried eventually. It's been several years since I've gotten back to Minnesota to visit my own parents' graves. Maybe we'll get there later this summer.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. I don't like to thrust right into Summer ---I want soft, warm, gentle Spring days. I'm still waiting for them. And Summer is lurking RIGHT THERE!
ReplyDeleteWe're leaving for the Black Hills around noon today but will go to the cemetery where both of our parents are buried when we get back. I rarely put flowers out Memorial weekend anymore because they have signs everywhere that say the flowers will be removed on Tuesday! That's LOT of flowers to be gone the next day. I'll go soon and they'll leave those out for a month or two. Both sets of Dennis's grandparents and his two sisters are also buried there along with various aunts and uncles so we have a lot of graves to visit when we go.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and hugs,
Betsy
Yay, you got to 80. I hope the mowing didn’t irritate your back.
ReplyDeleteFleta is doing 💐 flowers for our parents. My Dad was a veteran. He survived the invasion of Iwo Jima. Helen loved making the arrangements. I don’t think I will ever care for it again as it makes he horribly sad.
I think I need to find a usual Sunday Patio Lunch Spot.
ReplyDeleteWe are going out later today to visit my Henderson ancestors.
ReplyDeleteAlways good to have special days to remember the people we've lost over the years.
ReplyDeleteLD...You had 80 degrees !!!! I have metal vases on my parents stone. If I don't get back to the site after a couple of years the flowers look pathetic. I have cousins who could pull them for me but I didn't say they were thoughtful.I should share the photo of mine.
ReplyDeleteThe grass smells so good after that 1st cut of the season.
