Hark! Back! Issue #2

Hark! Back! Is a look back at blogs that appeared in a now defunct blogging site before I started with blogger in September of 2008.  They are in no particular order.

Conversation with a three year old

Last evening I spent some time with one of my Great Nephews...he was three on April first.  I asked him what he wanted for his birthday...the party is on Sunday...he replied "Cake."  I asked him what kind of presents he wanted..."Balloons."  I made the mistake of calling him "Honey"...he replied "My name is not Honey it is Mason."  I asked him if I couldn't call him Honey anyway...he replied "No, I am Mason" then he would scrunch up his face, roll his eyes and extend his lower lip.  I explained that Honey was a nice name...and he changed the subject.

During my conversation with my new Honey/Mason...I discovered he had a haircut by Pam, had a good day at Barbs, Barb has two dogs with no names, his sister was asleep and so was his Mother, he wants to be an Excavator driver when he gets big, his Grandpa is not my brother, his Grandpa was never ever a little boy, his Dad was never ever little either, his Dad is big and Grandpa is his Dad's favorite.

I have an old jar that I keep on the counter in the kitchen...filled with Tootsie Pop Suckers.  Most small children leave the house with a sucker in hand.  Mason always chooses one for himself and one for his sister...he wanted a green one again.  I have never tried the new green ones...but they have passed the Mason test...he said they are yummy.

Well while I was enjoying my conversation with Mason his Grandmother was out walking and saw six Robins behind our house.  She always seems to be really lucky seeing the first Robins of Spring:)

Mason is all grown up...he was 21 on his last birthday and yes he is an Excavator driver.  He has a beautiful gal who is Miss Minnesota this past year.

  1. Love this conversation. Kids say the funniest things sometimes, and make their parents cringe! Mason’s grandpa was never a little boy! 😂 RHill, TX

  2. This made me smile, and remember similar conversations with 3 year olds in my own life. They sure have trouble with imagining their parents and grandparents were ever little kids. And so glad you gave the update on him as an adult.

  4. This is great Connie...I enjoy reading old post. Your Mason is so cute with all of his words. They grow up so fast and it is good that we have special post like this to take us back to our grands growing up years. Miss Minnesota...WOW.. this is so neat.

  5. I love that he is fulfilling his dreams! That doesn't happen to many kids!

  6. I'm impressed - it's rare that a child of 3 knows what they will do for work as an adult and to follow through. He was quite the conversationalist too.

  7. Love your story about Mason. Reminds me of my children when they were three. Nice he is doing what he wanted to do so long ago.

  8. I love this! Preschool kids are such fun. They are delightfully honest and transparent. Isn't it interesting how God often instills their future vocation in them when they are so very young.
Our older grandson, when he was quite young, was asked by his aunt if she could give him a nickname since Benjamin was a long name. She asked if she could call him "B" and it would be her special name for him. Without a breath gone by after the question, he told her "NO. My name is Benjamin." However now he goes by Ben - - - from everyone except Grammy who still loves his given, name, Benjamin.

  10. This is such a fun post. You never know what little kids will say and it's always fun. :-) They grow up way too fast though. Hope you're healing well.
    Blessings and love,

  11. I like that story. My 3 year old Grand, Toney, is sometimes called Ton Ton. I asked him if he like to be called Ton Ton. He said No, that his name is Toney. Some call him Toney Rocket. He didn't want to be called that either. 3 year olds apparently like to be called their given name.

  14. This is so cute! I'm so glad he is an excavator driver! My Jonathan is 22 now, married with a small baby girl, was obsessed with cars when he was little. He would ask me to please call him "Dodge", or "Ford". He works in HVAC, and has a very old Lexus to drive, and works hard to make ends meet...but someday I'd like to see him have some dreamy cars ha.
