May Baskets!

I have been celebrating May Day with May Baskets for many years...since 1952...it is so easy you make a basket and put some candy inside it and deliver it to friends and family!

This years baskets were pretty pink pigs:) Filled with chocolate candy and some had Tootsie Pops.

I made 25 baskets.

My Mom with her May basket.  I left her a couple of baskets to share with who ever she would like.

She had a lengthy day at the Clinic and is doing okay...she has swelling in her legs and needs to keep walking and putting her feet up and wearing her compression socks.  She has been struggling with swollen legs for many months.  I try to attend her Doctors appointments when possible.

  1. She looks like she was pleased to get her May Basket!

My MIL struggled with the same issues your mom has. It is so hard to deal with leg edema!

    Your mom looks pleased.

  3. I think it's lovely that you make the May baskets every year. And I hope your Mom rests enough that the combination of that and the compression socks make the swelling in her legs go down.

  4. Love those piggy May baskets! You get so much done. Your Mom is looking pretty good. She's had a rough year or two hasn't she? I hope she shared the baskets and enjoyed doing so.
    Blessings and love,

  5. Hope the swelling in mom's legs goes down soon. I am sure it is painful which makes the walking, compression socks, etc not very fun.

The May Baskets are precious! What lucky receipients!

It's so nice that you are able to be with your mom for appointments and visits. I do hope she gets some relief from the swelling.

  12. I love these baskets, too. And your mom sure doesn't look her age. I think I look older than she does. Wishing her well in her struggle with edema. Sending you both much love.

  14. Those are adorable!!! When I was little, my mom helped us (my brother and I) make May Baskets using doilies and ribbon, then we filled them with the blooming spirea that grew between our and the neighbor's driveways and added a drawing. Only two neighbors got baskets from us, but that was fine. And their kids made May Baskets for us. We thought that was such fun. Sneak over to their porch, hang the baskets on the doorknobs, ring their doorbell, then run home fast! LOL! I sure miss those times!

Jerry has fought leg swelling for decades due to some of his medical conditions. Just no way to get away from it. Medications don't even help. I hope the doctors figure out how to get your mom's leg swelling controlled. Prayers!

  15. Your Mom looks so young. Did she stay in assisted living after your Dad passed or did she go back to their home?

  16. Your pig baskets are so great. Fun outside and inside too. It is a fun thing to do. I bought my wife flowers for May day and thought I could put them outside and ring the door bell. She said she would have been scared if no one was there.

  19. Your Mom is looking good especially considering she's 93 !! Cute May baskets. That tradition isn't known here and if I hung baskets on anyone's door they'd be very confused.

  21. This is the first I've heard of May baskets but what a wonderful idea to give to family and friends. Your Mom was certainly happy to get one. My mother in law struggled with congestive heart failure and she didn't have to wear compression stockings all the time but when she did (like if she traveled) - oh, how hard they were to put them on her - I never did get the hang of it.
