Snow Removal Entertainment

We were entertained by snow removal yesterday.  Lots of noise and big machinery out on the street.

The grader pushed snow from the curbs into the center of the street.  He made the rounds several times, when he was waiting he was on his phone.

This fellow had a massive snow blower and would fill dump trucks, one after another.  They take the snow to empty lots where it will melt come Spring.

They were on the street for about 90 minutes.   I finally got bored, but the kitty cat Phoebe was entertained.   It was great to see blue sky, then in the afternoon it began to snow and get windy.  Not much for snow accumulation.

Sadie was indifferent to the loud noises.  Yes she grew again.  Her body is getting longer trying to grow into those legs.  She and I had fights all day...she wanted to chew on the edge of rugs...she can be a tad sassy sometimes. She has plenty of stuff to chew on....she probably just likes to irritate me.

  1. That is some interesting snow removal equipment. Here they just use front end loaders and dump it into dump trucks. Then they take it to parks and dump it there to melt.Yes, I sure can see that Sadie is growing. She is still cute tho.

  2. I think they do that in our little town too but we haven't had any real significant snow this year. I can remember winters where we had to dump huge piles of snow all over the place!

At least the sun was out and it was something to watch!

  3. Glad to hear your snow is going somewhere else! Such a sweet picture of Sadie. :-)

  5. WOW! And I thought we had some heavy duty snow removal equipment in Spokane! Nope. Nothing to compare with that snow blower. I would have been entertained watching them too. Poor Sadie. She is such a pretty dog. I think sometimes puppies must feel they can't do anything right. Zoey and Lizzie liked to chew on rug edges too. Zoey finally stopped a couple of months ago so I replaced the one by the front door as it looked awful. However, I caught Lizzie chewing last weekend. Oops. Maybe that new rug came too soon. :-)
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  6. Sadie seems to be attempting to prove her alpha status. She'll learn because you're willing to work with her.

My cats would never have watched the grader go by, so Phoebe is a brave cat. We'll need some snow removal again soon with this latest dump. Hopefully soon as temperatures are finally heading in the right direction, but not for a few days yet.

  7. The wind howled last night, and I have drifts by the front door. Sadly, the snow on the tree boughs is gone. I should have taken more photos yesterday.

  8. Wow - so much snow to move! We came home to 5-6 inches of new snow. Our neighbor had plowed out our driveway, but Dave went out this morning with the snowblower to do the sidewalks. We talked to some friends at the tournament who moved to Detroit Lakes, and they said they've been buried under snow this winter. She drives to Moorhead, and is a professor. She said it has been a tough commute all winter.

  9. It will be spring much faster up there! Just think it might still be winter here when you return :)

  11. I have never seen roads cleared of snow that way... and I live in snow country! I would have been fascinated by the process. Phoebe and I would have had a grand time watching out the window!

  12. That's really interesting to see how they are taking care of the snow there! They just use snowplows here and usually block the end of our driveway with snow.
It sounds like Sadie has a mind of her own and isn't afraid to show you, just like a toddler! She's growing so fast that she probably has growing pains.

  13. That town is high tech! What a great way to take care of snow without pushing it into people's driveways right after they've shoveled! LOL! Sadie looks sad in that picture...did she get in trouble again? It's hard to be a toddler....everything is "no". I bet she misses her parents too.

  14. So much snow!! In parts of Manitoba they're running out of places to dump it when they haul it away. It's quite the winter.

  15. I don't know where Sadie is in dog years, but it sounds like the terrible twos.

  16. We do that in our town with the giant snowpiles (when we have those). The snow is taken to a lot the city owns on the edge of town and eventually it melts by summer. Otherwise we would never see around the street corners!

  17. It’s a good thing you are there to keep an eye on Sadie during the day! There would be lots of chewed surprises to return home to if she didn’t have you redirecting her energies.

  18. We like watching big stuff also. Love that dog!

  19. Machinery are more fun if you get to drive it. I can see the cat sitting for hours and just watching. Dogs are wonderful and never predictable.

  20. You know it's a serious snow plow when it coms with a dump truck--LOL!
Sadie can be a stinker, I guess. All puppies can. She is so cute, though. ;)

  21. Pretty slick the way they clean snow off the streets these days.

  22. It would be fascinating to watch that heavy machinery at work. Must have been so difficult for folk to get around in the days before snow could be cleared like this.

  23. I remember snow being carted off to be dumped somewhere else when I was living in the Keweenaw in the 80s. Rumor had it that the piles of snow where they dumped it didn't entirely melt until July.

  24. Sometimes I also wonder about the method to the madness that snow removal can be.

Sadie just wants your attention 25 hours a day!!

  25. Well, glad Phoebe had something interesting to watch. LOL! I think Sadie is just testing you to see what you'll tolerate and what you won't.
