The off sale liquor store in the small town nearby had a fire.
Seems it started under the building, was extinuished and later ignited again and that time it was a total loss.
Hard to see our small town ( population 300) lose a business but I heard they will rebuild. The population of 300 must count all the seasonal people!
Before this was a off sale liquor store it was Joann’s Second Hand Consignment Shop …before that it was Cornelia’s Corner…Cornelia had a bit of anything and everything in that shop. She and her husband retired to the lake and she opened a shop to have something to do and to have a bit of an income. I cannot recall what it was before Cornelia bought it…I think it stood vacant for a number of years.
All work in the fields has come to a halt…it rained, it got colder…the rain got fatter and fatter and became snow.
I feel sorry for the owners. Even if they had insurance, it's never enough to cover everything, and they're losing income every day. At least no one was hurt.
ReplyDeleteSo sad but glad everyone is alright! What is an "off sale" liquor store? I've never heard that term used before.
ReplyDeleteOh! I think there is still and Off sale store or state store near where I live. I haven't heard that expression for a long time.
ReplyDeleteWell, the hunters need a place to go buy their beer right?
I do hope they are able to rebuild. It's sad when anybody has such a loss.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard the term "off sale" liquor store.
ReplyDeleteMe either Pauline, what does that mean?
DeleteEstablishments in Minnesota that sell liquor that you can take home with you is called an off sale liquor store. On sale establishment serve liquor on site, like places to dine, bars etc...
DeleteMinnesota has Liquor Laws!
Off sales of liquor are restricted to licensed liquor stores. Liquor is only sold in liquor stores, not supermarkets as you may be used to from other states, or gas stations.
How sad. Having grown up in a very small town, I know what it’s like to lose even one business. I hope they are able to rebuild soon. Blessings, Betsy
ReplyDeleteyes, that building has been totally destroyed. They could get a double wide trailer to fit the bill. We are having that weather minus the snow. I felt you cold from the north while I was out with Barney.
ReplyDeleteI hope they can rebuild. Small stores change hands so many times over the years. Hard for them to keep afloat.
ReplyDeleteWe had some snow, too, but very little. I am disappointed. :(
Interesting hearing what businesses where there before and the lady opening a shop when they moved to the lake for something to do and income. Sounds like an ideal life.
ReplyDeleteOh Shucks - a few years back I was at the Osage Market and when I checked out they had an old picture of the store across the street. I remember telling them that Connie needed that picture "the local history buff".
ReplyDeleteOur rain is still raining...we are soaked to above our ankles now :(
ReplyDeleteThat little store had a few different incarnations... and now it's history.
ReplyDeleteIt always seems to take forever until the insurance etc.. is settled and the destroyed building torn down and rebuilt.
Small towns survive on a precarious level. Our small towns are long gone.
ReplyDeleteWait. Did you say snow???
ReplyDeleteI wondered about the "off sale" liquor store too. Here we just call it a liquor store.
ReplyDeleteYour winter comes roaring in there in Minnesota.
I always hate to hear of a business getting a hard knock like that... especially a fire. :( Here in northwest Indiana we have a frost warning out for early Friday morning... supposed to get down to around 37 degrees by 3am. The frost will definitely be on the pumpkins by daybreak. Love, Andrea xoxo
