Woodcarving Weekend

We tried our best to stay on task all weekend.  We still went for Chance’s evening drive…he looks forward to it and it is part of his routine…and WELL if you have ever owned a Border Collie…they have routine ingrained in their brains.

We finished some more Christmas Ornaments and now have 25 totally finished (just 50 to go!)!! AND my desk has more parts cluttering up the top…if we keep our knives to the wood, paint and sealer on my brushes all this week who knows how many we could get done this week. Far Guy would like to put this project behind him…me too!  The patio looks like a woodshop.  We can hold the skeeters at bay until about 5PM then they become too much for us.  Chance starts looking for someone to cook at 5:30 anyway so it becomes time to come in for the day… and fight over who gets to cook.

On our drive last night we saw a Doe and two fawns…can you spot the fawns?

Doe and Twin Fawns

They are just to the right of the Doe.  They are enjoying the tall grass in my cousin Todd’s Tree Farm.

August is half over today and summer is winding down.  School doesn’t start here until after Labor Day. Fall is in the air with cooler nights and an occassional Oak leaf drops to the ground.

  1. You two are making good progress on the woodcarving. I enjoyed your photos of the deer. We see deer here at the new house every day. Theo is spellbound by them! Glad Chance enjoys his nightly rides. We are beginning to see leaves start to fall, also.

  2. Sounds like you are making progress on the Christmas ornaments. It's funny how a person or dog gets into a routine and gets rally upset when that routine isn't followed. I seem to get cranky when my routine isn't followed. Do you think getting old has something to do with it?

  3. I think I must have been a border collie in a former life, given my penchant for routine. Congratulations on making such progress on the ornaments. And of course I smiled at the deer. :-)

  4. Catching up on your posts and boy you have been busy. Had no idea you had that many Christmas carvings to do and I can imagine it will indeed be nice to have them done and on to something else (reminds me of a big old afghan I just finished). Keep the skeeters to yourselves okay? LOL

  5. Good luck with your carvings, I admire your skill in carving. That Chance, so demanding!

  6. I had to look close but did find the fawns, before you told us where. It's not getting any cooler here yet, not even at night. We are sure looking forward to fall! I loved your last post with Chance and the chase.

  7. I see the fawns. I usually have a knack for spotting deer.
My oak is losing leaves. I wondered if a squirrel is doing it, taking off acorns.
And the air is different, it does not feel like July.

  8. It feels darn-right chilly early mornings here. Warms up nicely. It could stay this way until Thanksgiving and I would be delighted!

  9. When it comes to shorter days and cooler nights, "I don't like it , but I guess things happen that way!"

  10. Great progress on the carving. I feel the same way about the card sets project but have been absolutely terrible about procrastinating the past few weeks. When we finally get down to the end of the assembly-line it will be time to rejoice! Glad it is cooler at night. I am so ready for fall. :) Have a productive week. I'm going to try to have one, too--LOL! ;)

  12. At the place we owned on Pokegama, a neighbor turned his deck into a screened in porch. I think that I would have to have one if I were a permanently planted Minnesotan. I think that our Border Collie is going to drive me crazy as he stays on his list of scheduled things. Once in a while he blows my mind by altering it just a little. I have added another walk to his schedule to give the guy more exercise.

  13. Still feels like summer here but I brought home two lovely, glossy, yellow leaves from my walk this morning. A sure sign of Autumn.

  15. Brown leaves are falling here from the summer drought. Thing get tired here in August, where we are heading for 90 degree temps this week. Things perk up again in September.

  16. I can't see the fawns but I'll take your word for it. It's cooler here but it's also been cloudy and raining. There have been a few sassafras leaves turning and that's usually my first sign down here. It seems early but I'll take it!
