Some of the weeds I see are very pretty.
It rained again last night and it hatched at least a billion more skeeters. We carved for a while today…you have to be careful and not do the Minnesota Wave with your carving knife. The summertime Minnesota Wave is when you take one hand and wave it in front of your face quickly followed by your other hand. It makes a breeze which may or may not drive the skeeters away from your face…or flying up your nose. Ever tasted a skeeter? One time I swallowed one and it gagged me and made me cough until I nearly threw up….now that was possibly too much info. Those little suckers can fly around a long time.
Some kind of Thistle possibly Spiny Plumeless Thistle a Noxious Weed.
It was a noisy day outside, between swatting at mosquitoes…me saying well a thousand less will hatch…a thousand more…etc… then someone delivered dirt to the township road…that truck roared in and then backed up to dump his load of dirt…then the helicopter was spraying the potato field across from us.
I am bummed out. The Persids are very active the next few nights. The skeeters make it impossible to go outside for more than a few minutes after dark.

This made me laugh sorry but swallowing a skeeter is funny:) There are no skeeters here they all moved down to places that have moisture. None here. Hugs B

ReplyDeleteGee and here I thought I was the only one who has ever swallowed a skeeter. It has finally fined a little here - suppose to rain on and off all day today. Guess that will bring out the mosquitoes here. The humidity is stifling right now. Hope you have a good weekend.

ReplyDeleteWe have had more skeeters this summer than usual, but nowhere near the number that you have. Of course, we outnumber everybody in snakes, raccoons, and owls, all searching for their next meal. This has been a rough summer.
ReplyDeleteI was bummed out last night; I was all set to go out and observe the meteor shower and it was cloudy. Keep your eyes to the skies for the next clear night. Just don't let those skeeters carry you away, the buggers.
ReplyDeleteI have heard the skeeters up there are the size of hummingbirds! We have raised quite a batch this year because I haven't been able to sieve them out of the rain barrel (it has a screen on top but they seem to find the smallest gap)

I've never heard of the "Minnesota Wave" but I totally understand! Boo for the skeeters!
ReplyDeleteI have swallowed them, got one inside my ear, in my eye riding a bike, and breathed one up my nose!! The nose is the worst, believe me! Apparently, I am a hot blooded Swede--LOL! Mosquitoes are drawn to me like moths to a flame. They love me and I dislike them with a passion.

Thank goodness mosquitoes aren't a problem here. I was out on the deck between 12:30 and 1 am and saw a few of the meteors. A dog doing that monotonous bark way off in the distance, and coyotes to the south, east and north all started yipping and howling to each other.

ReplyDeleteWith the virus thing going a round the town is busy spraying often. I can see skeeters hatching in my waterbarrel outside and the next day all is dead and gone. I am on the gallery roof removing shingles and two of them were bothering me and then they went away. I too was swatting with two hands. I did have deet to spray on if they kept after me.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness! Your thistle is still colorful. I went thistle hunting today and they have all turned brown. BTW, the American Sign Language sign for mosquito is hilarious because the sign looks like what it feels litke to get bitten! I love that sign! Some other states do a more reserved sign, but here in MN we use the one you see in the video.

ReplyDeleteIt is very noisy here too because it is Airshow Weekend. Very hot adds to the general feeling of lethargy. BUT... we don't have mosquitoes and that is truly a blessing.
ReplyDeleteWe went to look at the Perseids last night but so did a hundred other people so the cars were lined up for a mile even before you got to the dark park. Very disappointing. Got to bed at 2 which is way too late for this granny.
