Wistful Wednesday: Watch Deacon Grow

Our middle granddaughter Maddie has a deep love for animals…most all kinds but especially horses, dogs and cats.

When Jade had her puppies Maddie’s heart was won over by Deacon.

He was little then.

Lets all say AHHH together.  I knew from the size of his paws that he was going to be good sized.

Maddie “arranged” to get him as a Christmas gift, I think he was the only item on her list.

He did what puppies do best…grow.  He really needs to go to an obedience class.
Maddie sometimes calls him Goose instead of Deacon or Deakers.

Maddie is undecided where she will go to school next year but she is interested in Equine Science and has been accepted at a school in Wyoming.  I am not sure dogs are allowed in a dorm.

  1. Good Morning, Wow! What great photos. It seems most of us animal lovers have several nick names for our pets! All the best to Maddie at this exciting time in her life.

  2. In that third picture, Deacon looks like a toy, a stuffed dog. Maddie is beautiful and so is Deacon. Makes me want another Lab.

  8. That first picture, you can see by those enormous paws that Deacon would be a big one. And what a beautiful one, too. I hope for both their sakes they will be together. :-)

  12. He is a gorgeous dog!!!! The paw thing, well sometimes yes, sometimes no. When we adopted Luna, everyone said she was going to be a bigger dog than Jake, she had bigger feet and was younger. Nope, not really. Her body is a bit longer, but she is not as tall as Jake. I hope Maddie finds some time to get some training in before she heads out for further education. (Just in case she has to leave Deacon for her parents to look after;-) Labs are big goofs until they are at least two, if not for their whole lives!

  13. Deacon is a beautiful guy. I am not a big dog fan in the house so border collie seems large enough for me. I never miss petting a dog like that any chance that I get.

  14. Lab fan here as well. Our Bella is now 5 and fat! Really need to get back to walking, both of us need it! I love reading your blog.

  15. He is a handsome young fellow! But I doubt they will let her take him to college. Which means someone else will have to take him while she's away...mom and dad? That's usually how it works out. Maybe they can bring him to obedience school--LOL! ;)

  21. As Karen so aptly put it.... Labs are big goofs! And I can attest to that because I think I have the goofiest of them all. At 7 Bracken is still a big gullump ( is that even a word?) Best of luck to your granddaughter.

  25. I can assure that no dorm will allow a dog. And few rentals will allow them either. Very nice dog and beautiful granddaughter.
