June 16 2014

Yesterday I got dressed and we ventured out to the Father’s Day Picnic at the firehall, the food was great!  Rhubarb pie..awesome!  It was the 37th annual fundraiser picnic.   I have to really watch what I eat at a picnic, so I had a whole wheat bun, roast pork, a dill pickle and a hotdish with potatoes and corn.

It rained most of the day but cleared off toward evening. We went outside for a short walk.  Between the two of us we got the lawn mowed late in the afternoon…it ain’t perfect but the grass was going to seed. The rain really made the grass grow.

I had only three naps yesterday…so that is an improvement.  I must be catching up.

Someone asked if I was concerned that I only remember bits and pieces of the past two weeks?  No, I had IV’s with all kinds of solutions and medications..potassium and other “crap” and I was sleep deprived.  The only sleep time I could count on in the hospital was from 11:30 PM to 2:30 AM.  Every other hour was filled with IV’s , IV Push meds, xrays, blood work, vital signs, nurse change of shifts etc…no rest for the weary there.  You just try and function on three hours of sleep a day…I bet you might forget a few things too.

Yes we have a sauna, it is near the wildflower garden.   My Doctor thought it was a good idea to use it everyday for awhile.  I have made it out there everyday except for the day I was really weak and dizzy.

  4. Hooray - - you are beginning to sound the the FarSide we know! Makes sense about the sleep-deprivation affecting you in addition to the meds. When I miss an hour or two at night, I can't even remember why I am standing in a room.
Rhubarb pie - - - my dad would have enjoyed being with you. I remember him loving that pie so much and my mom fixing bunches of them in the summer time.
Glad you are still getting the naps in plus doing some things you like. That's the definition of retirement!

  8. The fact that you are posting every day now is a sign that you are definitely getting well. But like your other blogging family, I also hope you don't overdo it and allow your body to heal. It takes longer when we get older. :-)

  9. You are beginning to sound like yourself again and I am so glad. Just, please, - do not overdo for quite a while yet. You are still in the recovering stage. You have a couple times recently mentioned "hot dish" and I am reminded that "only in Minnesota" do we call casseroles "hot dishes"! It is truly a Minnesota thing. I have also noticed that you say "whilst" instead of "while" and wonder if that is from living so close to Canada? I believe that is a British word? Whatever - it is charming and I enjoy "hearing" it.

  11. Great news that you are getting back in the groove. Just be careful you don't over do it. It is always so great when you start feeling good but then you look at everything that fell by the wayside while you were sick and you are tempted to "over do" but sounds like going to the Father's Day dinner was a good thing. Oh, how I love those small town dinners. The best food ever and all home made! You scored yesterday and the lawn too? Isn't it a good thing when the lawn seeds itself? Then you don't have to go buy any. So happy you 2 are on the road to recovery!

  15. So glad to hear you are all feeling better. I agree. Don't overdo. It's easy when you've been sick for so long.
    Have a blessed day!

  16. So glad you are feeling at least a little better. You could've put a grass measuring stick out and done a contest like for snow ;-).

  19. I"m agreeing with those comments that are telling you to take it easy. Whew, you have had a wallop and a half there. Take the very best care of yourself, we don't want either of you back in the hospital.

  20. Only three naps? And that is an improvement? Scary to think how things were before that :(

Glad the food sounded appetizing to you. A sure sign you are regaining strength. You two have certainly been through a lot! Make that recovery slow and steady, though. You'll get there!

  21. I think it's cool that your town has a Father's Day picnic! And I'm glad to hear that you are getting out a bit and beginning to enjoy yourself.

  22. So true! There is no way to get rest in a hospital! That's why I was so glad you were home again where you could sleep and nap as much as you wanted to. :) Nice that you made it out to the picnic and that you got the lawn mowed. The grass grows like crazy and it's been hard to find time to mow between raindrops. :)
