Wistful Wednesday: 1952

Pin curls..do up you hair for a Saturday night.

Mom Connie and Aunt Marion 1952

That is my Mom with her hair in pin curls with a scarf wrapped around her head. The other lady is my Aunt Marion.  Pants with rolled up cuffs must have been in fashion that year.

This photo was taken at my Grandparents D’s home..that is their garage in the background..and the cloths line where the wash was was hung..and most likely many diapers..there were three new babies in the house that winter..me and my twin Aunt and Uncle who were born two months after me:)

  1. That picture must have been taken at the same time as last Wednesday's picture. You are dressed the same, as is Marion. I remember those kind of pin curls!

  2. I man do I ever remember the pin curls and the scarf around them. When my mother used to put my hair up in pin curls she would spit on the hair to moisten it before rolling the hair. Then she would tie a scarf around my head to hold the curls in place. Must say the next day I did have beautiful curls in my hair.

  3. Cuffs on jeans were definitely IN in 1952. Pin curls were more comfortable than the brush rollers which came next. As my mother used to say: it was painful to be beautiful! Love Wednesdays.

  4. Coming from one who has been there and done that. Rolling the pants up was the fashion in the 50s.

  5. I used to do one pin curl either side of my face, probably through the late sixties into the early seventies. I remember getting poked by the bobby pins sometimes in the night.

  6. I remember the pin curls in Mom's hair...lol. And she used to try them in mine, they poked.

So the ocean....do you just want to whip up through Sask, isn't that just above you guys, and pick me up on the way? We could get there and dip our feet, and I can introduce you to ton's of bloggers who still live in White Rock.

  8. Cute pic! The funny thing is that I put my daughter's afro hair in pin curls and the next day the effect was really lovely! In fact, the curls have stayed in for many days now...

  9. I remember pin curls! My mom setting my head and, when I was old enough, me setting hers. She wasn't very good at it and didn't tuck in the stick straight ends so I looked very odd and unsettling. So, I learned how to do my own at a young age, was better at it than she was, so then had to do hers, too--LOL! This picture brought back memories!! ;)

  10. My mom and neighbor, Lillie, always pin curled each other's hair! I love this photo.

  11. Styles are very familiar as I saw similar stuff in high school. Now the serious expressions? What's really going on?

  12. Isn't that a great picture! Those really were the "good old days" we just didn't realize it as we were SO young then! LOL! I think I might have done a few pincurls but rollers are what I remember and the scarf over the big rollers and going everywhere in them! LOL!
