I have discovered another way to hoard books. How many books can a Kindle Fire hold?
I have 51 books on the Fire. Should I delete them after I read them? I have four that I could delete.
I have enough books hidden in this house to start a small library. I was always afraid I would run out of things to read during the winter. Fat chance that will happen.
At one time in my life I fantasized about having a library room full of books from floor to ceiling with one of those ladders on rails..I could whip around the room finding the book I wanted and then stretch out in a window seat and read the day away. The room would not have a phone and the fireplace would always be lit..
I bought a book for $2 at a garage sale yesterday. Nebraska Pioneer Cookbook.
It has some great recipes. I like to read cookbooks..I have already gotten $2 worth of smiles from reading it.
Popcorn Pudding
Soak two quarts of freshly popped corn in three pints of sweet milk overnight. When ready to bake, add three well beaten eggs, a pinch of salt and sugar to taste. Bake like a custard pudding.
Sweet Milk is just regular milk..and custards are sometimes put in a pan and baked in a slow oven 325 degrees or in a warmer oven (350 degrees) in custard cups that are in a pan that is partially filled with water.
I have never made a custard…but I think I have eaten them when I was in grade school.
Right now I am trying to read my camera manual, it is real dry reading..that cookbook was just a distraction.
Chance and I went out and watched the sunset last night:)

ReplyDeleteI haven't figured out how to get the books actually deleted off my Kindle app. They just go into the cloud and are available to get again if I want. But then again, I don't have fifty of them on there! If you find out how to delete permanently, let me know. Well, I'm not surprised that camera manual reading is dry. But if you got that picture with your new camera, you are learning fast! Beautiful!

ReplyDeleteI love the line, right now I am reading my camera manual, and it is dry reading....of course it's dry, add some spices, and some butter to it, lol.
ReplyDeleteI found after the initial set up it was easiest to dip into the manual every time I needed to know "how do I do that" in order not to overwhelm my poor fried brain. And I am still learning things with my camera, inspired by techniques other photographers use. This way it's little dips, and drabs, and I remember things easier, and they stick with me.
I also love the online tutorials, written by people like me, who actually think in reality not diagrams.

I found my grandmother's old cookbook. She'd write down recipes of her favorites. I passed it on to my sister, as she is the 'cook' in the family. Now I'm wishing I had it back to check to see if she had popcorn pudding in it!

I love to read old cookbooks, too, especially ones that are published by church groups. The recipes are usually family favorites and are delicious or at least sound that way.

ReplyDeleteI love my kindle and it has nearly 75 books stored away in case I want to read them again. One cook book, don't bother with those on kindle, it's impossible to copy a recipe.
ReplyDeleteFunny...I've had that same library dream. But now, when I travel, I don't have to try to take my whole library with me (so I don't run out of books!). It's much better to take a slim tablet than actually carry those kazillion books!

ReplyDeleteVery nice sunset. I, too, love to collect and read cookbooks even though I don't cook much any more. John teased when we bought this house that in the living room (which has a tall ceiling) we could put in book shelves and the sliding ladder!

ReplyDeleteI don't buy books anymore (unless they are reference books or cook books) but get them all from the library for my Kobo ereader. You're doing great with that new toy. My camera manual's are dogeared and tired looking even if they are dry reading;)

ReplyDeleteI love to read cookbooks too!!! I used to read so much, and now I have a hard time finishing anything I start. I three unfinished books just sitting around waiting for me to pick them up again... What's the matter with me? Canon manual.... I have a G11 Canon. I am sure if you go to amazon and look up Jeff Carlson you will find a more readable manual for your new canon than that boring manual. His G11 book has given me lots of pointers. Good luck Oh.. why are you messing with manuals anyway, when you are getting such beautiful shots as last night's sunset?

It's too bad those ebooks don't allow you to email your book to others to read and then send back to you or forward it on. I don't have an ereader but I swear we were separated at birth because not only do I love to read also but I always wanted one of those library rooms and swore I would make one in my next place if I ever get there. I even went online and found where you get those sliding ladders! I too hate talking on the phone and there will be a fireplace for sure in that library!
ReplyDeleteThe pudding recipe is really interesting and I love those old recipes because many of them were very frugal too. The cookbooks today seem to require ingredients I don't have and probably can't get and seem to cost a lot to put together and then maybe you won't even like it and that would be a real waste of time and money. One of my old fav's is split pea and ham soup....so good and simple and economical and healthy too! Love the sunset picture....gorgeous...I miss them!
