On Friday evening our newest Great Granddaughter was born. She was a May baby instead of a June baby. She and her Mom are both doing well.

Welcome Baby K

Life goes on...
One of my nieces was very pregnant when my Mom took a turn for the worse. I thought perhaps we would have a birth and a death in the same day. The baby waited to be born five days after her Great Grandmother died. The baby is happy and healthy and beautiful according to her grandmother (my sister).
Do you remember anything before you were born? Me neither. Somehow I believe there is a connection someplace between those who are to be born and those who have died. Do their souls speak to each other? I wonder.
As we were sitting at my Mom's bedside, my other baby brother brought up the idea that souls speak to each other...and perhaps our Mom's soul had a lot to say to our souls and those people who would visit her.
I found it very interesting that Baxter stood on the chair next to Mom's bed and whined/talked to her. Lolli my sisters puppy spent a number of hours just laying next to Mom quietly.
My Mom really liked dogs especially Boston Terriers like Lolli. Lolli was a regular visitor on the night shift when we were taking turns at Mom's bedside. Lolli got used to the nurses coming and going. I would take over bedside watch after the Hospice nurses were by to check Mom's vitals, then my sister, her husband and Lolli would go home to sleep. My brothers came by off and on through out the day and evening sometimes into the night. We were a good team and made it work so Mom was never alone. We had to advocate for our Mom as her pain increased more and more everyday. Sometimes she would cry real tears in her sleep. I am thankful that I was there to wipe them away.Tuesday, June 20, 2023

Meeting Lola
I met Lola over the weekend and got to hold her a good long time.
I finished her blanket in record time.
She has her eyes kind of open.
Holding her Mama's hand.
And my other baby brother the proud Grandpa!

Lola
My niece Stacey was expecting a baby with a due date of January 13. She had no idea if it was a boy or a girl. ( They did not want to know) Lola was born just before midnight five days early...she is perfect! She weighed 8 pounds and 10 ounces.
I had been looking at pink yarn and blue yarn...I almost bought the blue yarn because I thought for sure she was having a baby boy. So I went and bought the pink yarn yesterday after my other baby brother called with the news of Lola's safe arrival. Lola is Grand # 15 for him.
Welcome to the family Lola!

Otto
I had an Uncle named Otto, he married my Dad’s sister my Aunt Marie. My Uncle Otto was a marvelous man, a lifelong educator, a artist and woodcarver with a wonderful sense of humor.
I have a Great Nephew who will carry on that strong name.
He has beautiful blue eyes and cheeks you just want to pinch…but I didn’t. Otto is about 13 weeks old now. His Mother reports that he is teething but is a very easy going baby.
Otto is here with his parents and his brother and sister for a vacation at the lake. Otto lives in New Jersy so this is the first time I have gotten to see him. Otto’s Grandfather is my baby brother…he has eight grands under the age of five and Otto is the youngest. They are all at the lake this week.

My adventure
About six weeks ago my niece Toots gave birth to a much awaited baby boy named Ray. She and her husband live a little more than an hour away. I had a gift for the baby and wanted to deliver it before he out grew it and before the weather and the roads got bad. They also live about ten miles from a second hand shop that usually has old photos.
Some of the roads near one of the lakes had icy curves but other than that it was a nice drive.
I enjoyed seeing their new home, meeting the dogs, having a good visit with Toots and of course meeting baby Ray. I got to hold him for a good long time. Ray is my sister Julie’s grandson.
His little outfit says Hero and he had a golden cape attached to the back.
I finally irritated him enough taking his photo that he woke up! He is a much loved little boy.
It seems I picked a really good day to be gone. The next day we had our third snow.
We have 2+ inches of snow on the ground. I guess we are beginning our six months of winter.
So I had a good adventure… stopping to take photos whenever I wanted, visiting at a second hand shop where I am known as “the old picture lady,” meeting baby Ray and I topped off the day by getting back to town just in time for my oil change appointment. Far Guy and Chance did just fine by themselves for the day.
