Monday Stuff

I try to start out Mondays with everything in place for the week.  Menus made and lists made for groceries and special things that should be done over the week.

Of course a person should be a bit flexible with the weather etc...and stuff that pops up that goes on the "to do list."

Lawn mowing is done for the week...trimming is not...nor is Poison Ivy removal and Thistle removal.  All things country that creep up on me.

Horses and a wagon....I think some young men were getting driving lessons.

We have just a few medical appointments this week...so far only four.  My kind of week.

Unplanned Spring Cleaning

Late Sunday afternoon I was awakened by a commotion in the bathroom.  Far Guy was cussing the old plunger that we got back in the 1980’s.  I know it is not from the 1970’s as that one had a burned handle from the time it was used to roll a log in the wood furnace.  He went to the garage for bigger more impressive clog removing tools, snakes and a power driven whatchamacallit.

I had been very sound asleep…so I had a bit of a brain fog…but assisted him anyway…even calling for a new plunger which was swiftly delivered by my great niece and nephew, Anna and Mason next door.

That plunger had no results either…something was really amuck.  Finally the water alarm went off in the furnace/laundry room as water came backwards through the floor drain.  The kids left with their plunger and reported back to their Dad ( My Nephew) that we had real problems.  I called my other baby brother and as I was telling Far Guy how to by pass the float…Far Guy was recalling it himself…the lift station lifted…and the water receded down the floor drain.   The float was bad…I disinfected the floor once before supper and once after supper.

Monday morning my nephew Josh came over, then my other baby brother came over…they developed a plan and at the end of the day we had a working lift station again…complete with a new float.

In order to have an area to work in the washer/dryer had to be moved, and in order to move it we removed the wire shelving unit from the wall…the kitchen was full of stuff.  Piece by piece I washed all the shelving whilst the guys were “fixing.” When they were done, I scrubbed the floor again…and we put the shelves together and all “the stuff” was put back in place.

On the positive side:

Part of that room has been spring cleaned!

The lift station is only for the lower level of our home.  The upstairs bathroom has it’s own separate sewage line…so we were never without a bathroom or a shower.

After a full day I had a four hour nap, I am a good napper… stress makes me really sleepy.

Monday Wash Day

I am not on a schedule…that is no big surprise!  I wash about one load of clothing everyday.

Years ago you washed on Monday and Ironed on Tuesday. I rarely iron, I hang up clothing right out of the dryer! I think you mended on Wednesday.  Who mends anymore?  I do if it is something simple…a button to sew on.  I used to mend lots of knees on jeans when the girls were little using the iron on patches and then sewing the heck out of them.  Do you darn socks?  Do you know how?  I remember learning and I could still do it in a pinch.

We try to recycle everything we can. There are huge recycling bins in nearby Osage.  I keep a separate recycle can for all our recycles and they are sorted when we get there. The Disabled American Veterans takes clothing and shoes.

Recycling should be a habit that we teach all of our children and grandchildren.

Monday Morning Madness

Mondays, they are not my favorite day of the week. If I am unorganized on Monday, it seems to set the tone for the entire week. This morning was just one huge frustration..the &^%$#@ mail. If it were up to me, I wouldn't have a mail box out at the end of the drive, I would only have one at the post office and I would just pick it up once a month. Far Guy and Chance consider it their daily duty to go and get it and plop it on the dining room table or on the steps and leave it there. It does not seem to bother him, there can be three or four days worth of mail all stacked up and he doesn't get the least bit excited. So I am the only one that shreds the junk mail, and puts the bills on the bulletin board and files important papers away.

Make bird house out of all the mailboxes.

I hate the bills that come that I have already paid, the ones where I have to call someone and say "I paid that bill on such and such a date." It wastes paper and postage and time on their part..on my part it is a waste of my time..but since they are idiots and have imbeciles working for them..I will waste my time calling to point out their inadequacies to them every time. I can be a real bitch.

Do you suppose a months worth of mail would fit in these old mailboxes?

Monday morning is usually a time where I corral Far Guy and get his plan for the week, this morning the phone kept ringing and he kept escaping in between phone calls, I practically had to tackle him to have our usual Monday Morning Meeting of great minds. It is important to me that we are both on the same page in the same book for the week. It was a struggle but we finally had our little meeting..success and only half the day is gone:)

Have I mentioned...

Have I mentioned..
That I dislike Mondays? Especially Mondays with miserable weather, like rain. It has been raining here since last Thursday. Five days of rain..Not only that.. two of those days it rained "Cats and Dogs"..well not really but you get the picture. Chance is wet and muddy, but I tell him he smells great anyway..not too many people appreciate that wet doggy smell..except maybe me. The muddy part is really sand and once dried, falls off and makes you long for the beach.

Have I mentioned...
That Mondays is the clear off the bulletin board day? I hate it so much that I missed last week. That board was full! I hog tied Far Guy to a chair, gagged him and made him open mail for an hour. He opened envelopes with a very scary letter opener, flung the recycled paper in one pile, flung the to be shredded in another pile, and stuffed envelopes for me, that was the reason for the gag..I know what the outgo is, he would just like for me to handle it and blindfold him. Investments have plummeted, being the end of a quarter there were multiple reports to sort through. I thought seriously about blindfolding him about then, but I didn't want to clean up the mess he would have made of himself with that really scary knifey looking letter opener he was using. I keep telling him that he has to have some idea, how things are done, if I croak first..he should have some clue. I guess I will have to write it all down, make him a "In case my wife dies first folder" one with very explicit instructions, he told me with his deer stuck in the headlights look ( I really should have used the blindfold) " Don't worry, I will figure it all out sweetheart" I am not so sure, I am wondering if I should also include "Dating Instructions" in his folder. Probably wouldn't hurt:)
