And so it goes

My Cousin Petie died this week.  She lived in the Cities but would come North every once in a while...she had an awesome sense of humor.  She was 78 years old and would have been 79 if she had lived 13 more days.  Her father and my father were brothers.

When my cousins used to get together at Christmas time, Petie always made an effort to be there.  She was always ready with hugs and smiles.

On my Fathers side of the family I have many cousins.  Last year Ronnie died and in the years before that... Cousins Mark, Lyle, Rosemarie, Leonard and baby Randall.  There are 46 of us Cousins and now 7 are gone.

My cousin Petie on the left, a photo taken with her sisters...  photo taken about 1949.

1 Corinthians 2:9  But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

  8. I'm really sorry. That you had so many cousins doesn't negate the loss of Petie. And what a cool name she had! I only have a few cousins, we were lamenting that fact last time I saw them, after their mother's funeral. We are such a small family. Lucky for me my husband has a huge family! I know you will miss your cousin, and the others that have gone on before. It's a lovely photo you have of her and her sisters...I hope (and know) you have many beautiful memories together.

  10. The photo looks like maybe the sisters in their new Easter dresses and new perms. There are photos of me and my sisters like that.
I have only six cousins on my mother's side, five of whom I am in touch, and many on my father's side, only two of which I know much about.
Your Petie was my age. That's too young for you to lose her. Condolences.

  13. I am sorry. It's a sad part of aging, to lose first cousins and other loved ones, not that it makes it any easier. I hope your memories become a source of comfort. Sending a virtual hug.

  14. You have a lot of cousins. I thought I had but not so many are around anymore. I lost one of my younger cousins recently and another younger one is in such bad health. I do feel old with cousins passing.

  19. I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I come from such a small family and a divorce when I was young made it even smaller. I only have one cousin who is quite a bit younger.

  20. My condolences on your loss. I have lot of cousins, but some live so far away that I never got to know them. So far I've lost 3 - one from my mom's side, and 2 from my dad's side. All were younger than me, which were good reminders to appreciate relatively good heath.
