Part 8 of my Nordic Crochet the Dala Horse is finished. In rural Sweden wooden horses were carved as children's toys and they later became a treasured symbol of Sweden. They were painted red and usually had some sort of floral design on them. I wood carved one several years ago...and I think I gave it away.
There are four Dala horses running along in my afghan.
So part 8 is finished and I am onto part 9 which is called Skadi Hills. I think I have enough yarn for that section but will have to play yarn chicken on the border...or order more yarn:)
I finished watching Roots so I watched Far Guy wood carve so he was my entertainment whilst I crocheted yesterday. He said " Are you waiting for some excitement like me cutting off a finger." So I got sleepy and decided to lay down and watch a movie on Netflix...I chose The Wonder...and as I fell asleep I wondered what it was really about. I would not recommend it to anyone. Totally a waste of really good nap time.
Far Side
I've seen the dala horses in blue, too. Always liked them.
ReplyDeleteYou are really talented to figure all these out! :)
Love that horse and had to laugh at the phrase "yarn chicken" for the border. Hope your horses don't run off the afghan. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Dala Horse is a charming addition to your project. Hopefully you will win that game of yarn chicken, and not have to order any.
ReplyDeleteA few years ago I quit going to "shoot em up" movies with my husband, because I decided life was too short to waste a couple of hours watching a movie type that I hate. If he's watching that type of movie at home - same thing - I go find something else to do. And a nap is an excellent choice.
I'm fascinated by your blanket and the intricate patterns that you're doing. I want to try mosaic crochet someday. I always seem to have projects in the lineup that need doing first. I'm crocheting a baby blanket for a sweet couple in England that we met at Alex and T's engagement party. Then I promised the kids Christmas stockings for them and Baby J. this year. I don't want to wait until the last minute so want to start them soon. First I need to find a pattern for them. I do need to keep working on socks for Christmas gifts too. And finally, I have sorely neglected my charity knitting for several months. I can't find anyone who really wants my mittens here, so I'm going to concentrate on prayer shawls this year for the hospital.
ReplyDeleteSorry the movie was a disappointment. That happens a lot lately. Either movies are changing or I am! :-)
Blessings,
Betsy
This is amazing crocheting. I crochet but wouldn't have a clue how to achieve this result. I stitch a lot of Attic 24's projects, afghans. Happy stitching from me. THanks for mentioning Roots is on Tubi.
ReplyDeleteThe blanket is going to so lovely. I'm sure ordering more yarn is probably the best option. :)
ReplyDeleteNaps are always a good thing. Golf on television always puts me to sleep - those low quiet voices and polite capping does it for me every time.
I am really taken by your afghan. You have skill.
ReplyDeleteYour Dala horse pattern is a great addition!!
ReplyDeleteThe blanket is a work of art. Work all caps 🤭
ReplyDeleteDala horses are quite meaningful to me. I can't wait to see your finished project.
ReplyDeleteYour Nordic crochet piece is so beautiful and I love the Dala horses because I'm part Swedish!
ReplyDeleteEvery part of it has been beautiful and you do such a fine job on your projects!
I think the horses are my favorite row!!!
ReplyDeleteVery cool!
ReplyDeleteNicely done!
ReplyDeleteYour blanket is so beautiful! I know they say it is easy and I know the stitches but I think I have trouble counting! LOL! I haven't given up but when I work on it I have to have time, patience, and no interruptions.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter collects dala horses as her great grandmother was from Sweden and got her started with them when she was little.
I start my days off many times just sitting and staring. I am waiting for my insulin to work and my coffee to wake me. I go from feeling 85 years old to just 72. I get so I can fall asleep while working on the computer.
