Goldenrod and Bookclub

 The Goldenrod is blooming.

It is a native plant in Minnesota. There are 15 different varieties that live in Minnesota.

Yesterday was Bookclub, they met in a local park and had a book swap.  I did not feel up to attending so I eventually joined them by phone.   We read Where The Crawdads Sing.  I enjoyed the book and give it a 9 out of 10.   It did not end the way I thought it would.  The gals said the movie followed the book quite well.

  2. I know goldenrod quite well, which also grows here in southern Iowa. It was the main supplier of nectar for my parents bee business in the fall. Compared to the spring honey nectars, goldenrod has a darker appearance and stronger flavor.

  3. I need to go back and reread that book. I read it a long time ago. My girlfriends went to the movie - and loved it - but that was the weekend I stayed with the grandkids.

  4. As a kid I really loved golden rod. It grew wild on our farm. I would cut it and take it to school for the teacher to display. She complained that she probably was allergic to it. I know some people plant it in their gardens.

  5. You've done your homework on goldenrods. I thought a goldenrod was a goldenrod.

  9. I loved that book, but not the ending. Hope you are feeling a bit better, and I really only thought there was Goldenrod — never guessed Minnesota had 15 different varieties!

  10. I'm sorry you didn't feel up to bookclub yesterday, Connie, but I'm glad the option was there of attending by phone. Maybe next month will be better. ~Andrea xoxo

  11. I've been on the reserve list for Where the Crawdads Sing for more than a month and I have a ways to go before I'll get the book to read. I look forward to it. Our goldenrod has been blooming for over a week now; to me it seems early.

  12. I've heard about that book but haven't read it. Maybe next winter. Too many things to do these days to spend much time reading.

  13. I didn’t care for the Crawdads book but read it because everyone thought it was the rave! I do love your Goldenrod. It’s so pretty.

  14. Goldenrod is in bloom here too, both the native roadside varieties and the cultivated one in my garden.
I liked the "Crawdad" book but I read it quite a while ago so I don't remember it very well. I guess I'll wait to see the movie. We're only going to movie theaters for blockbusters like Top Gun: Maverick.

  16. I read that book and passed it on to a friend. Both of us liked it and I haven't seen the movie ... yet.

Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do! Yikes!

I saw one goldenrod opening up so soon there will be golden fields of them!
