We went for a trail ride. Packed a lunch and spent the afternoon out on the trails. Saw a bear crossing the road in front of us.
It was in an area like this...he/she was running pretty fast. No photo of the bear. Yes the bear was faster than me and the camera.
Then we took off toward Coleman Lake. The DNR has snares set in the area for wolf research. There is a sign warning pet owners.
We finally made it to Coleman Lake
Two adult swans and two juveniles
No additional bears or wolves were spotted.
Far Side
Nice to see the swans. I bet it was neat to see the bear in a way also.
ReplyDeleteWe have signs like the wolf snares that go up once in a while around our area also, but it is for beaver that get a bit over zealous in damming up trout creeks.
Sounds like you had a nice interesting ride in your UTV.
Sounds scary to me with bears and wolves in the woods. Wouldn't want to meet up with them. Can you tell i am a city girl?
ReplyDeleteSeeing a bear is always exciting, even when I don't actually see it. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a fun way to spend an afternoon. As long as the bear stays far enough away. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the picture of Coleman lake trimmed by the little flowers. So pretty and peaceful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice way to spend a relaxing afternoon! Knowing there are bears and wolves in the surrounding woods would keep me pretty nervous. We have the occasional mountain lion in our area, so I guess there are scary predators everywhere.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a bear, thankfully! I saw a coyote once, walking along the gravel road.
ReplyDeleteThank Heavens! I wouldn't want to meet either one of those.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a wonderful day. It’s been raining for two weeks and too hot and buggy to be outside having fun here. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteLovely place to explore!
ReplyDeleteBears and wolves, oh my! Sounds like a wonderful, peaceful day. Beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteAside the bears and the traps, what a beautiful place to enjoy, it looks so peaceful!
ReplyDeleteI imagine you got quite a fright to see that bear so suddenly - I am glad he kept on running! :)
ReplyDeleteThe lake looks so peaceful with the swans and all. Good thing the bear took off. I'm not sure exactly what would happen if it hadn't.
ReplyDeleteThe swans are fascinating to see. I am glad you can get out and just enjoy the outside. Trapping wolves is serious business. We don't have them here, just mountain lions. I hope the traps are just cages.
ReplyDeleteAwesome wild life! The critters, not you. :-)
ReplyDeleteWow....what an exciting time out and about for you guys and your picnic lunch! Who'd a thunk you might run into a bear or even wolves. Yikes. My hubby hit a wolf with his car a couple years back so I know they're around....as well as the bears. Glad you had a nice outing and the lake pic is lovely, especially with those swans.
ReplyDeleteAnother city girl here. Bears and wolves? No thank you. Actually I have "known" some swans in my lifetime and they scare me, too! I am a sissy.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a fun afternoon and the lake picture is so pretty. I miss our lake in Washington. We would often see bears, mountain lions, bobcats and coyotes there. An occasional elk or moose would wander by too, but not very often.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and hugs,
Betsy
Seeing the back side of a bear running away is certainly better than the other way around!
ReplyDeleteThe swans are lovely. I hiked on a trail with a bear activity sign but I didn't see one...thank goodness! lol
