It was a fun afternoon.
The re enactors were awesome. They traveled from Grand Forks North Dakota. They volunteer their time to educate the public about the Civil War. They are an interesting and highly educated group of people. It was a pleasure to welcome them to the Museum.
I know the women are dying to see more of this dress.
I asked her what she carried in her bag..she replied “Today only my gloves.” I asked her if she could sit down comfortably..and she showed me that yes she could. One of my volunteers said perhaps I should dress up like that everyday in the museum. That is probably not happening:)

ReplyDeleteCongratulations on having 75 people show up! It looks like it was a complete success, and too bad for those who missed it. You are quite a resource for the museum yourself, and you have every right to be tired. Glad it went so well, and thanks for the pictures.
ReplyDeleteWhat?, you don't want to dress like the 1800's every day? Great shots, I hope the re-enactors weren't too warm wearing all that heavy clothing. Have a great and more relaxed week.
ReplyDeleteI am happy for you that everything went so well. i enjoy the Civil War Re-enactments and find them and the volunteers so very informative. I love American history and I am glad that there are people out there helping to preserve it for future generations.
ReplyDeleteIs the "Thief" sign a form of punishment? It reminded me of a news report last winter in Indianapolis, a mother made her son stand on a street corner wearing a sign that said, "I'm a liar, and I used drugs" or something like that. It was quite controversial as people thought that was child abuse. I found it interesting. A single black mom in the inner city was dispirit in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI've always been more interested with early American history but have recently started to study Civil War history. Those Civil War re-enactors really bring it alive!
I think that a turnout of 75 was great! Those Civil War re-enactors sure do a good job and what fun for the people who come to the event. Thanks to those in our country who re-enact our history for our education and enjoyment. It sounds to me like your program was a great success. Word will get around about what fun it was and more will attend next time?

ReplyDeleteIn this heat I think 75 was a good turnout. The re-enactors must have been so hot in those clothes, but how great they looked! Love that dress and bonnet. I wish you had had more visitors, but if they do this every year it will grow by word of mouth. I bet you were so glad it was over, though. Congrats!! Looks like a success to me!! :):):)

Dressing in costume emphasizes the ideas you are trying to get across. Good idea.

Reenactments are great!! You should get several outfits and wear them to work...just think of the new folks that would come just to see what you are wearing...
