The Yellow Lady’s Slipper( Cypripedium parviflorum) are in bloom. I took these photos on May 19, 2012.
They seem shorter this year..that could be due to the lack of moisture.
We have a wire cage around them to discourage the deer.
This bloom is playing peek a boo..
This one is unfurled…in all it’s glory. This is just one of forty-two species of native orchids in Minnesota:)
They are going ot look beautifil when in full bloom.Lovely photos. Papa and I just did loads of our flower planting yesterday . I love getting my hand in the dirt and planting . Have a good day .

ReplyDeleteI do love our native orchids. Several clumps are blooming in my garden. As with all these plants they are getting harder and harder to find in the wild here..... Your close upare fantastic. :)

I never thought of Lady Slippers as a type of orchid. They are beautiful. And Chance is looking handsome, as usual. :)

ReplyDeleteFor years I thought the only orchids were the tropical ones. I was pleased to discover there are orchids in the midwest. I have never seen a yellow one but I have been told there are large masses of them not far from Lake Erie where we bird.
ReplyDelete42 species? Wow! I did not know they were of the orchid family but now that you mention it..they certainly look like it. They're beautiful and I love the yellow. That's amazing and I had never heard of the fern leaf peony either and I lived in Iowa for over 20 years. You sure know your plants and fauna and the Latin names to boot!
