Next Project

I am not finished with my other ongoing projects but I am on to a different project. At some point you have to leave a project behind and move on. (Ongoing is SO my word for 2017.)

I am going back into my photo archives hunting for photos for a special occasion in March.  At the same time I am deleting photos AND retrieving photos of the grands.

I think this photo was taken about 25 years ago….I found it as a scanned negative.  Far Guy spent the better part of a few weeks scanning all our old negatives a few years back.
Firetruck 1992 Picnic
What kid doesn’t like a fire truck?  Every year at the Father’s Day Picnic little kids get to climb all over the fire truck and sometimes they got to go for a ride.  This photo was taken in 1992.
On the right is the old six by six that Far Guy drove through a line of fire in a CRP field while I was on top with the hose…I leaned over and squirted the hose through his window and finally just held the hose in my hands and pointed it straight up so it acted as a waterfall and cooled the air around me.  Needless to say I was relieved to get back to the black (the area that already burned.) I also gave him the what for.

I can only work on this digital project for a short time…it is tedious…one digital folder at a time.  I also have to bring down several photo albums to make sure I get the dates correct.  I would like to have this project done by the end of the month…I am crossing my fingers on this one.

The Fireman’s Wife and Dog

Sometimes Far Guy and I are out and about when his pager goes off..he is still a Volunteer Fireman and is on call from 7 to 7 during weekdays. In our area most of the young guys are out of the area working during the day and the fire hall can be short handed. Sometimes Chance and I drop Far Guy off at the fire  hall, they will see that he gets home.

Every evening at six o’clock there is a pager test, Chance knows that it is just a test..but it is a signal to him that someone should be in the kitchen cooking supper (usually Far Guy).  Other times during the day, if the pager goes off while Far Guy and Chance are outside..Chance heads for the house ..he knows he will be left behind. He plops himself down next to the door and sighs.

IMG_7056 The other day, we were close to the location of a fender bender..Chance and I watched from afar.   Now that reminds me of a joke. “Did you know that the wisemen were really fireman? ( pause for effect)  It says so right in the Bible..they came from afar.”

IMG_7169 On Thursday night we had a “date night”..there was a control burn, and I got to take photos. Chance watched from the car, and then Far Guy took him for a walk.  I watched and took photos from afar. Far Guy was there to see that all of their cameras were set to take photos and to be a driver just in case there was a rescue call.

Control burns are done for a number of reasons usually the houses are no longer inhabitable and the owners wish to burn them down.  It provides a great training exercise for Fireman, this house provided valuable training that may some day save a Fireman’s life..or maybe yours. Chance : A Great Ride

I get to blog again! First of all, Far Guy is feeling pretty good, he is off of all the extra pain medications and only on Advil. He still has to lay down occasionally ..because Far Side says so. If Far Side says to lay down..we just look for a comfy spot. Yesterday the phone rang, and Far Guy got a mission..to take a Fire Truck for a quick computer checkup..about 30 miles away. Far Side said " Oh no you don't..not with out me." That is great ..if they are both going..I might get to go too! Why is Far Side going? Because we are a team..and she can drive that truck IF she has to.

Far Side says I must be a big boy and be very brave and ride in the back seat... because I am too big of a lug to ride in her lap the entire way. Riding in between them on top of the radio console is not a option. Far Side says if I get lonely in the back, she will come sit with me ..WOW you can really see from up here. This truck is really, really tall..it gives you a great view. I love to watch for horses and cows in the fields.

The view from inside the truck, they should really wash their windows on the outside.

All of a sudden Far Guy jams on the brakes..OH MY..he has forgotten his coffee cup on the running boards..it is still there! He says this is one smooth riding truck.. two miles from the Fire Hall on a gravel road and his favorite red coffee cup is still along for the ride.

Later Far Side said "Look at that!! Can I get a photo?" Far Guy says "Sure, you want lights? A siren? " He stops right in the middle of the highway so she can get a photograph. Nothing was coming from either direction..

An Amish Field

I barked at this guy and his horse. The guy had a great red beard and a beige hat..but Far Side missed that part.

Far Side had to wash the back windows when we got back to the Fire Hall, she said I drool too much..and had put too many nose prints on the windows.. we saw lots of Turkeys, a few Bald Eagles, and some Deer along with the usual horses and cows. We didn't do any lights or sirens..maybe next time:)
