Jen and I joined a few of my cousins, my sister, my sisters in law and my Mom for a day of sewing at my baby brothers lake place. The food was fantastic...soups and fruit and many desserts....gluten free and otherwise. There were four Gluten Free people there...Jen, my cousin Geraldine, my sister and my other baby brother.
Nearly everyone there was a quilter. Cousins Geraldine and Wilma helped my Mom get ready to sew a couple of quilts. I crocheted on a couple of projects...my sister and I helped Mom catch up on writing thank you cards.
Mom is grieving and has lost her interest in sewing, we were hoping that the sewing days would help her through the process a bit.
Cousin Geraldine
There were many sewing tables and machines set up in the porch.
Jen sewing.
I ironed some pieces for my Mom and for Jen...that is as close as I want to get to quilting!
Far Side
My sister is the quilter...not me. I'm with you...
ReplyDeleteLove the views though!

I hope that the activities you guys plan and involve your mom in do help her. It is hard to lose a life long partner.
ReplyDeleteI feel for your mom. It's hard to lose your life partner, no matter how old you are. :-(
ReplyDeleteSewing days with family at the lake sounds Awesome. The view out the windows, wow. Plus, food. Sounds like an enjoyable time helping out each other with their projects. Karen
ReplyDeleteI love that you all had a girls' day! It was good that every one was helping your mom - - especially with the thank you notes. We all want to acknowledge gifts/blessings but it can certainly be overwhelming at times. So happy you all are surrounding your mom with your presence. I know her days are lonely without your dad. There have been a lot of changes in her life.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how much your mom is missing your dad. Keeping her close to the family is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteCareful... you might just get bitten by that quilting bug if you get too close!
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat to have someone to press pieces! I know you were appreciated. I love that your family is rallying around your Mom.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful time together. - Sara
ReplyDeleteI've never tried quilting - I am a crocheter (not near as good as you are). I wouldn't even trust myself with an iron. It's wonderful you were able to have that large gathering to help your Mom at this time.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Your mom appreciates it, I'm sure. It's good for all of you. I hope you can do this regularly this winter. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice thing to do for your mom.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea, a sewing day with family. Even though your mother has lost interest in sewing. she must have been strengthened by the love that surrounded her.
ReplyDeleteSad that we sometimes ignore the grief elders experience.
ReplyDeleteLooks like such a fun day at the lake. I'm praying for your mom....that she will do a little better soon. God bless her and all of you. Life can be hard....but things will get better. I'm praying for that.
ReplyDeleteHugs to your mom....
ReplyDeleteI too have a cousin called Geraldine. Not a common name anymore- kinda like my name. Nobody names their child Shirley anymore!
You are blessed to be able to get together with family.
I've been wondering how your Mom has been doing. I never seem to have time to sit down and quilt. I'm making Saturdays my quilting day. I have a BOM quilt starting in February. What fun to get together like that.
