Brown

The wind blew all day yesterday with 40 mph gusts, it was warm 71 F or 22 C eh!

Crippses Creek

Cripps’ Creek had some waterfowl.  Ducks; Mallards and Hooded Mergansers.

Find the Canada Goose

Canada Goose in field of brown

We heard this one before we saw him.  He was quite upset and honking loudly.  We watched him waddle down the furrows.  As we left a pair came off the lake…apparently he was the dinner bell.

We have the tiniest hint of green in our grass.  It is brown here and dry.  The idiots on the news the other night said “Be careful with fires.”  They should have said “No Fires.” The DNR says that the fire danger is explosive.  We are officially in a drought.

  1. So early in the year to already be dealing with drought. I hope the rains come down and alleviate the need for water, lots of water.

  2. Yes, the news idiots should know better! Frightening conditions with high wind and drought.
Hope you guys have a peaceful Sunday.

  3. Big fires are scary in any area but especially in a rural wooded area. Wish you had had some of our rain. Lots of basement sump pumps are pumping steadily here.

  4. The weather sure is weird these days. I found the goose in the brown, though, so life is good. :-)

  5. That goose must have been the scout.
May your winds die down and your rain fall.

  6. Wow!!! Was the same here, warm and windy. Nice dinner call, Francine.

  7. Red flag warnings and lots of wind in my area, but even with that some people still think they can burn ditches, etc. Aargh!

  8. Might that goose be one of a pair, with the other one nesting somewhere in the furrows? Or is that too early for your area?
You were warmer than us yesterday, too much green and wet right here to be worried about fires, although a fire on a windy day anywhere can be a scary thing. It's pretty dry in Oliver though.

    1. The eat in that corn field. It is a little too early for nesting...and the farmer will plant in that field. They are pretty smart, there are many nesting areas nearby that are better than a field:)

  9. We are green now but we'll be going brown by mid-July without more water. We are always in a summer drought and our snow pack is about 15% of normal. Our fire season will be brutal, I fear.
Hoping for some green to come your way soon.

  10. Love the goose!
How scary that you guys are in drought. So much of our country is that way. It will be a tinder box - if it isn't already. Like Linda, our snow pack is way down. Some areas only had 75% of normal. But, we have more than California. The struggle for water isn't going to be nice.

  11. I always, always, always rejoice loudly the second I start to see tiny sprigs of green!

  12. We here in MPLS MN are going to have temps in the low 70s today if the sun keeps shining. We might get some welcome rain this evening.

  13. That's awful to be in a drought. The high winds don't help anything.

  14. I like your first photo. I saw the first great blue heron in the sky here yesterday, an important sign of spring.

  15. Wish we could share all the wet we have with you.
The Bennie is going to put in a sump pump to run off the rain water in our back and side yard.

  16. Our farm fields look the same. We have a lot more green but we have quite a ways to go. Someone in our area mowed their lawn but they must be cutting very short and probably were picking up leaves.

  17. I spied the goose! Hope you get some rain in your area.

  18. It's brown with touches of green here...eh? You are much warmer then us, you might win the spring race with that heat.

  20. Been really wet here.. I wish I could email you a gallon or two thousand.

  21. Yup! It was so windy the one day we were supposedly in the 70s that it felt chilly till almost evening. So dry that my hayfever, that doesn't bother me much at all some years, is already acting up just from old dried whatever blowing about from last fall. I hope we get some of the rain this week they've been saying is possible (20% possible doesn't sound promising). This is what happens when all the snow misses us and lands farther south and out east all winter. I'll keep praying for rain for the farmers.
