A few days ago, I rode along on an errand, luckily on the way out of the house I grabbed my camera bag.
As we approached the stop sign on our corner, I noticed something fluttering.
Crows were flying everywhere…and an Eagle.
He landed.
Then he took off again.
Saturday afternoon we saw him/her again.
We disturbed it’s road kill meal… most likely a raccoon or someone's kitty cat. It was hard to tell. The Eagles have a nest near the lake, I am sure this is one of their young.
He can fly…he/she just doesn’t fly real far at one time. He/she has been out on this field about a week hunting and scarfing up road kill.
They are impressive (and big!) birds - and crows do not like them! Actually most other birds do not like them!
ReplyDeleteNice shots , yes he/she looks like a juvenile Bald Eagle . They are huge birds ! Thanks for sharing , Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteI've never had the good fortune to see an eagle in the wild - I'd have to go farther into the woods. It must be an exciting sight, although I think I'm going to tell myself what drew it was a raccoon, not a family pet!
ReplyDeleteWe see them around here so often that it's no longer thrilling. But they are definitely magnificent birds. :-)
ReplyDeleteNow that road kill has to be the lazy way to get your dinner for a raptor. But fun to see an eagle in the wild. Have a lovely Sunday.
ReplyDeleteMorning, enjoy seeing the youngsters, wonderful pictures. Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeletePractice makes Perfect!
ReplyDeleteVery cool!!!!!! Hope it wasn't a kitty cat
ReplyDeleteAmazing photos of this eagle in flight-training.
ReplyDeleteThere was 2 young eagles this morning on that corner when we went to church. Then when we came home this afternoon from my Mom's, there was one. Fun to see!
ReplyDeleteNow THAT is cool! Nothing like it here!

How fortunate you are to observe this young guy. I would guess road kill is good hunting practice.
ReplyDeleteIt's always a thrill to see an eagle! I've been seeing them more just in the last 2 or 3 years. Nice shots!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! Those young eagles had better be practicing their flying, because they must be on their own by now.
ReplyDeleteWhy fly if you've found such a great source of lunches! :)
ReplyDeleteEagles don't migrate, do they? Those crows try their best to chase eagles and other predatory birds away. Crows are quite brave. I wonder if the young eagle will stick around the area and make it home territory? They are magnificent birds! :)
ReplyDeleteWe have vultures here...eagles too but they tend to hang out on the river bluffs while the vultures hang out in the woods around here. Great photos! BTW...your apple dish sounded yummy!
ReplyDeleteYou see the neatest things when you're out! I get excited when I see a hawk.
